Charlie - I would agree. I think if anything baseball should probably have more than 64 teams make the regionals. How unfair was it when baseball used to only get 48 teams in?

Playoffs

The key point to keep in mind about college playoffs, whether they're single elimination as in basketball or double elimination as in baseball (best of 3 = double elimination) is that they don't identify the best team. No practical tournament format can do that, and that isn't their purpose.

The purpose of a tournament is to identify a champion, which may or may not be the "best" team -- look at a source like Boyd's World with its odds, for example, and see how often there's an actual odds-on (i.e, more than 50%) favorite to win the CWS. The winner is simply the one that comes out on top in a one-time run through a nationwide field, which is all you can hope for given the number of teams who participate in the sport.

I certainly do not feel obligated to defend my fandom and allegience to Wichita State on this board.

However, in this instance, I was not agreeing with all of billy's sentiments, but thought his update on the current status of the tournament was relevant to this topic. And yeah, as Shocker fans, sometimes we subscribe to conspiracy theories. I know I do, thus the reason I used the word "we".

BCS ump throws So. Miss clean up hitter out of the game for getting tagged out at home. What CRAP the BCS is.

The ump threw a Southern Miss player, the cleanup hitter, out of the game for no reason. The Southern Miss runner tagged and was thrown out at the plate. The catcher if anything hit the runner harder than the runner hit the catcher. A little league player wouldn't have been tossed from a game for what the runner did. Are you supposed to stop running towards home?

Ump said he threw a forearm. Of course, the Florida catcher and pitcher weren't ejected for standing over the Southern Miss. player and taunting. Stay classy, Florida.

I turned after the 5th man am I pissed. I turned it back on in time to see the E3 and winning run score though.

And yeah the kid who got thrown out should be pissed. He tried if anything to ensure minimal contact. But yet its ok for 2 players to stand over you yelling in your face.
