Pretty sparse crowd but it was a Thursday. The CU friends and families were veeeeeeery quiet after the 4th. After a long day, that was a much needed break for the Doc.
Always good shutting those guys up any day is a good day, even if it's in the midst of the worst season in 31 years. I hate to see any pitcher throw 130+......but TK was the MAN tonight.
I'll be there again tomorrow but I'll miss Saturday.... :( Fortunately, I know there will be good fans in my place.
The Shox looked like a team that was playing with very little to lose and were having some fun out there on Thurs.
4 runs vs. a pretty mediocre (or worse) pitcher isn't anything to write home about, but some guys hit the ball pretty well for outs. The two bombs came at a perfect time to give the Shox some confidence. The next 2 guys, Dufek and Hellhake don't appear to be markedly different, stats-wise than Hauer, so the Shox should be able to generate a bit of offense against them.
Clearly, keeping leadoff runners off base in EVERY SINGLE INNING is a good formula for beating sCUm. They can't play their patty-cake smallball version of baseball if they can't bunt runners around.
Lowell and Cooper need to be just as sharp as Kelley and good things will happen.
On Bascue's throw ... it seemed like the whole play unfolded in slow motion and like he took an eternity to unload the throw. The runner was well around 3rd headed home when Brett released the ball, but it was right there on the money and just in time for Lassley to catch it without the runner getting in the way and Cody had the plate blocked well. It was very nice.
I gotta mention Ryan Jones, too. He ran down a couple of well-hit balls in CF that could have been hits. His offense comes and goes, but he brings it on defense every day.
Let's hope the Curse of the '09 season - the weather - cooperates tonight and we get the game in without storms fouling up the schedule.

You guys have some dragons to slay over there this weekend. If my math is correct, if you win another MSU is champs. If the Shox win another, sCUm stays in 3rd. Shox win 2 and sCUm to 4th.
Correct??
