  • Outfield

I like Jones in center. Caster is hitting the ball right now and is a good fit in right. Only Jones could play that wind and sun yesterday. Bascue in left is hitting the ball and doing the little thing ala bunt and is a good fielder. I ? his arm. But I like this outfield. Anyone agree?

    Outfield

I tend to agree. I saw Castor play right field in a game last season & he showed an excellent arm on a throw to home plate that nailed a runner. Bascue brings experience and power potential as the left fielder. Jones is obviously the most qualified to play center field while also adding an experienced hitter to the lineup. Bascue made a highlight catch in left field last season.

Bascue particpated in a very unusual drag bunt situation in the 9th inning of the game on Friday night. Shocker runners were on 2nd & 3rd when he bunted, so one had to assume it was a squeeze bunt. However, he bunted it a bit hard. The Illinois St 1st & 3rd basemen charged the bunt, but the WSU runner on 3rd base did not break to the plate. Bascue made it safely to 1st which loaded the bases. Unfortunately, Tayler Brown then hit into a double play to end the game altho WSU had numerous changes to score earlier in the game & didn't. I think they were too nervous in teh opening MVC game of the season.

You can't win with that outfield. They all went to high school within 15 miles of Eck Stadium.   :yahoo:

Said in jest I assume based on all the smiley faces you put after that.

Mitch Castor hit 0.600 at Goddard HS in his Jr year & made 1st Team KS All-State; He was injured and missed his entire Sr year of HS. He's shown promise of being a good hitter at times. He had a HR in the final game VS Florida State in the Super Regional last year.

Brian Bascue was a 3-sport start at Derby HS, so he didn't concentrate on baseball until he arrived at WSU. I'm hoping his experience will pay off this year for such a young team!

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

            Bascue

Bascue just hit a 2-run HR to give the Shockers some breathing room with a 4-lead now
