  • BYU at Shox (Game 2)

Rematch this afternoon starting at 2pm after the Shox thrilling come-from-behind win on Monday.

Monday's pitching performances were good. Brian Flynn was mostly dominant, but had control problams in the 4th inning. After 2 outs, Flynn couldn't find the plate with anything but the fastball and the Cougars struck for 4 runs, including a 3-run HR by catcher JT Musso in the 9-hole, putting them up 5-1. Grant Muncrief slammed the door with 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball.

Muncrief's performance was clearly the best relief outing of the season so far. His breaking ball is nasty. The home plate umpire even had a hard time with it at times. He may be tightening his grip on the closer role, or at least the long closer (Dreifort style).

Offensive stars were Lassley with the game winning 2-run double and McKeever who was 3-4. Every starter had at least one hit in the game and all but one either scored a run or drove one in.

Today, Goddard High's Dalton Banwart is scheduled for his first appearance as the Shox go 5 men deep in the rotation. An added bonus of Muncrief's performance is that it gives the bullpen some reprieve and most everyone else should be available, with everyone pitching 2 innings or less in the NDSU series.

I really hope Muncrief can be a good long closer. With a young pitching staff, we are going to need those types of performances.

It'd be nice if the bats woke up soon and opened this game up a bit. :D

We got this. Coach has the pitching staff teaching the hitters how to come from behind...

                  BRILLIANT!!

Sounds like Banwart did a fine job. Looks like our bats are still trying to figure out on how to knock out a true freshman pitcher.

Maybe I should have specified that it was our bats that should wake up...

Bad request, Sub. You forgot to specify whose bats needed to wake up -- next time, please be more careful and explicit.
                          :(

Edit / update: Sorry, by the time I finished typing you had already acknowledged your mistake.

By the way, do the Shocker pitchers only give up runs with two out? Certainly the other guys' pitchers seldom seem to do so; it'd be nice to see a little two-out lightning from WSU's hitters instead of it exclusively striking the Shocker pitchers.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I did predict we would go 1-1 this series. Sounds like I'm halfway there to being right and thus far, I am 100 percent on my baseball predictions. Uh oh! :D

                              Hmmm...

100 percent, KC? I guess that means your premature surrender yesterday doesn't qualify as a "prediction" even though the game wasn't over yet?
