  • Season Home Opener -- Roll call

Guys i'm so excited for shocker baseball season!

i cant wait for the hill.... the homers... (hopefully sooner rather than later) the pleasant weather..

i'll be at the home opener with a few friends. im sure there will be quite a bit of real estate on the hill for the first couple of weeks... so come on down.

i don't know much about North Dakota state...
generally for me: no name school=cupcake.
but thats one of the many reasons i dont play at the collegiate level.
i'm hoping our guys come out excited and ready to play and hopefully not expect NDS to roll over.

    anyhow..

    who else is going!?

also on a side note... i've been wondering who is gonna be our 4th and 5th starting pitchers... like for the BYU games... anyone know?? anyone have an educated guess??? thanks.

I'll be there. All 3 games. My guess is Banwart, Maldanado, maybe Flynn. Not sure there are any cupcakes this year. I'd like to see a sweep.

NDSU is either a provisional D1 team or just recently received D1 status, IIRC. Their coach has overhauled the team with something like 21 new guys, mostly freshman, so they're very inexperienced, too. The roster is heavily laden with players from NDak and Minnesota. They have a pitcher from South Africa, which I don't recall ever seeing on a US college roster.

The Bison are picked last in the Summit League. That league includes Oral Roberts and is scattered all over the western half of the US - also includes Southern Utah, Centenary (LA) and Oakland which are more than a bus trip away. They don't seem to be afraid to travel A LOT and last year played several larger programs, including some BCS teams (KU, OU, Creighton, Minnesota). They only have 2 home games before April 22 (2 of their first 32) and then play every game at home but 1.

The 3 game set with WSU will be NDSU's first action of the season and I'm sure they face stiff challenges early getting outdoors to practice.

I can't make it on Friday afternoon, but am planning on packing up the blankets and bun warmers for Saturday and Sunday. As usual, we'll stake our claim "in the front row"!!

I'll be there Friday and Sunday. Saturday marks the first regular season home game that I will miss in over 3 years.

I was so glad to see Shocker Baseball weather return on Friday.

The only home games I'll miss this year will be when I'm in St. Louis for the basketball tourny. I think the previous poster that said Banwart, Maldanado, and Flynn are the probable 4-6 starters is accurate. Not in that order maybe but those will be the guys. I'm really excited to see the kids get after it.

I will be making the trek. Without fully revealing myself, I coached one of NDSU's freshman last year while he was in HS, and can't wait to see his collegiate debut against my alma mater. Kinda hoping he goes about 15-for-15 at the dish while Wichita sweeps.

I don't see that there should be much problem with the sweep part; NDSU will have their first outdoor practice of the spring on Thursday in Wichita.

I can provide more inside info on NDSU if need be, just let me know! See you at the Eck!

I will be there all three games. I think there pitching coach played a pretty good blind guy last year. I laugh for the rest of the inning. Its still funny just thinking about it. HAHA
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

I'll be there, hopefully with a 4-year-old who is totally stoked about baseball season. When I told him it would be cold, he said "Well we can wear our Shocker hats then!" When I told him we may not stay long he said, "One hour?". I replied that we may not make it that long. He said "Two hours?"

Looking forward to getting it kicked off.
