No freshman all-americans in the making just yet. Rosecrans, O'Brien, Grimes and Letourneau went a combined 1 for 36 for the weekend. That needs to turn around or this team is doomed. Our pitching is good for Friday and Saturday, but beyond that, it is Johnny Wholestaff and that won't deliver consistancy. So we are going to have to outscore our opponents.

      Yup.

You were on the money with 2-1 weekend. I thought 2-1 was realistic myself, but I thought the loss would be to Fla. Gulf Coast.

I noticed Sat. that the frosh weren't producing. Even the little-used returners did a little this weekend hitting-wise. D1 pitching is a rude awakening, and if the frosh have been hitting in the scrimmages, that leaves our own pitching a little suspect, doesn't it.

NDSU didn't play this weekend, which will work in the Shox favor. That, and they completely overhauled their roster with TWENTY-ONE new players this season. Yikes!

Going to be interseting how the starters line up this coming weekend. Will the midweek guys pitch Friday and Sat with the weekend guys going Sun-Tues or will they stick to the normal routine and the midweek guys throw against BYU.Don't often see 5 straight games on a college schedule.

Normal routine. Gene will not change his rotation unless an injury gets in the way or someone just steps up and deserves to be moved up in the rotation. Usually even then its just a day difference and not to hard to sort out.

Yes, DU, 56 games plus postseason play for however long it lasts.

Eeek! Doom! Despair! The Shocks lost a game! Even worse, they lost one in which they scored nine runs and their unproven pitching was ineffective! Whatever shall we do?

Well, not panicking would be a good start. It's baseball, guys. Stuff happens, and it has happened in the past to Shocker teams expected to be better than this one, and to more experienced pitchers than these. It will happen again, believe me.

Cooper was wild and used up his pitches too soon, and his relief couldn't get the third out. Then, the next inning, things were prolonged by what sounds like a bad call, partly as a result of not having enough umpires.

But Cooper will settle down and get better; he'll also be allowed to go deeper into games. If there's anything to be concerned about, it would be McKeever's ineffectiveness -- but even there, one game is not a reason to get all excited. Now, if he keeps struggling, that's a different matter. But it's a little early to turn into KC.

Good teams lose to lesser opponents every year, and for the Shocks to lose to CMU doesn't mean much at this point except that they lost a game -- it won't be the last. If the Shocks start scoring nine against the strong teams on their schedule and losing anyway, then even I may start to be concerned. For right now, though, it's just one of those days. No biggie.
