            Young pitching

Well, we'll see what the totally new freshmen do the next couple of days, but it's certainly hard to complain about the not-so-experienced Tim Kelley's outing today.

Temple may not be '27 Yankees, as the saying goes, but Kelley performed about as well as any of his more celebrated "Shocker ace" predecessors did under similar conditions. A good start.

--I imagine that we will see more players get a chance tomorrow. I am guessing Taylor Brown gets the start at short.

--We need our "veterans" to step up and lead us out of the gate. They were great today: Kelley, Lassley, McKeever, Jones, Hall, and Hutson all contributed big time for the win.

--It was a good time to get Smith some innings. Up 7-1 late in the game.

--We really took advantage of poor defense by Temple. Speed on the bases will be a team strength.

--O'Brien, Letourneau, and Baez are going to be big contributors this season.

O' brien was 0 for 4, but he hit the ball hard at least 3 of his 4 AB's. the hits will fall for him

Nice to see all of the extra base hits today. And jones just missed a HR early.Maybe we will have just a bit more pop than first thought.

He led the cape cod league in HR this last summer. That's with a wood bat. he has more pop then most think. I just think he is a good situational hitter and passes on some great pitches to jerk in order to put the ball in the best place based of the situation. Not that there is a better place than over the fence because there isn't. I mean a higher percentage hit to a particular location or field based on runners positions.

                    • I don't wish to take away from a solid win by our guys today but Temple losing their ace early in the game may have taken their heads out of the game. They led 1-0 when their pitcher left the game holding his elbow. There are few feelings sicker than losing a player to injury, and to have it happen early in the first game of the season, well, my heart goes out to the Owls.

I'm really looking forward to Charlie Lowell's start tomorrow. He looked good in the alumni game. 6-4 225 lb left-hander. There's some good potential there.

                      • Good win Shocks. I am pump. Also I think you can add Josh Rosecrans as a big contributor. The BIG bopper.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

Yeah their starter was eating us up early and really seemed on. I'm sure those first at bats for the new guys were a bit nerve wrecking though to no doubt. After a couple sloppy plays and that first at bat they tuned in better and had more settled approaches at the plate. Granted the pitcher that came in made it easy as he was all over the place. None the less only 2 SO and no bone headed plays from the field except Kelly early. I really liked the aggression on the bases. Can't wait to see the new pitchers!

I like the agression on the bases as well, except for RJ getting picked off at third with 1 out? Huh?

Yeah I forgot about that. Nice thing though is it was RJ and you know it wont be a regular occurrence or bad habit going forward.
