JT said they might try to do it after the last camp in August so the team could practice on it this fall.
I wasn't clear on which turf he said they were going to use, but he did say they would have it cut short so it would play faster. He said FieldTurf (like at K-State) plays really slow.
He confirmed that only the pitcher's mound would be dirt. All other dirt pit areas will be dirt-colored turf.
From WSU baseball ready for next set of improvements at Eck Stadium
Stephenson and Sexton would like to put new artificial turf on the Eck Stadium infield before the 2009 season begins. WSU is finalizing contract details to replace the old turf with FieldTurf, a surface used by Kansas State, Creighton, Tulane and others
It looks like the indoor practice facility will be started before the turf is installed. They mailed out apologies for loss of parking spaces due to construction. I have a question on the infield turf. How does the dirt colored turf around the bases hamper or help players sliding or diving back to a base?

I'm no authority on the subject but you have to start your slide sooner. And I'm pretty sure it wouldn't feel good to have bare skin touching the turf when you slide or dive into a base. Everyone wears gloves these days so that shouldn't be much of an issue.
I had thought that perhaps one of the reasons for not having dirt around the bases is that maybe you wouldn't have to tarp the field at all, but I asked JT and he said they would still cover the field because it gets really slick when it gets wet.
Again, I'm just repeating things I have been told and that I believe to be true.. I could be...all wet, so to speak.
