    How old are you?
Old enough to have attended the Shox CWS games in Omaha in '82 and probably 600 games since.

    How old are you?

Conor Gillaspie can put the sweet part of the bat on more balls than any player I recall watching. I predict that Gillaspie will have more success in MLB than any other Shocker non-pitcher ever has, except Joe Carter. Batting .419 with the current bat rules doesn't suck.

Maybe I'm old enough my memory is weak.

Old enough to recall a couple guys by the names of Carter and Stephenson.

One thing that gives me optimism about the coming year actually hit me last year while watching different teams during the regional's and SRs on TV. I saw successful teams that relied on young line-ups with fr and soph underclassmen playing key roles in crunch time. So it can happen fairly quickly. Given the positive comments and ratings we've heard about this year's recruiting class from various places, I am confident we will see nice results that will just get better over time.

        Young teams

Excellent point, Sitter. Inexperience can be a problem, and it's true that WSU isn't accustomed to being this young -- but lack of talent is a far greater problem than inexperience is.

What you saw last year was some teams whose talent overcame their lack of experience, as after a full season of play it really should. There's no reason why WSU can't do that, too -- it just depends on the talent level; and the reports on that seem pretty positive. Now we just have to wait and see whether the reality matches the reports.

That California team we played in the Supers in Wichita a couple of years ago was loaded with freshman and sophomores including pitchers. And they beat us. I am not worried and we will end up in the top 25 somewhere.
