I don't follow the baseball team that closely but I believe 3B is kinda open at the moment. I'm not sure who, if anyone, solidified the spot in the fall. Coy will be in the mix for sure.

If Coy was drafted in the 7th round out of high school you'd think he has to be a consideration at 3rd. I wasn't very impressed with anyone at third (fielding) over the fall series. I have never seen Coy play so I really hate to speculate at this point who would be in the lead at third. Often time kids are drafted more on their plate potential out of high school and if Coy really is 6'7" that seems rather big for the "hot corner" but all accounts say hes pretty athletic. You don't need to be fast at 3rd but you sure need to be pretty quick laterally. Beyond that you just never know how Gene will use guys but I have no doubt that Gene will find the best fit for him where ever that may be on the field. A big welcome goes out to Coy. We are thrilled to have you and we can't wait to see you in action.

See, it's the power of positive thinking that got this done. Just like Michael Phelps envisioning himself with eight gold medals, I pictured Johnny at the hot corner and penciled him into the lineup. So you can thank and learn from me, Denny Crane. :yahoo:
Because Denny Crane says so Dammit!

I'm starting a rumor Johnny Coy was seen in the batting cage at the Eck.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

I think except for 3rd and DH, the opening day lineup isn't a big mystery. I think Denny Crane and shock10 have it right. Chris O'Brien and Josh Rosecrans will get plenty of chances both at 3rd and DH. Andrew Letourneau is a mystery to me. I've heard good things about him but I'm not sure where he fits in. Left field or DH. Something I heard that I'm not sure I believe is that the coaches may take a look at him at shortstop. Apparently he played there some in high school and JT thinks he may have the tools. It certainly wouldn't be the first time someone showed up at a position in the spring they hadn't played in the fall. I'm thinking of Derek Schermerhorn moving from third to first Conor's Freshman year. You get creative in order to get the best bats into the lineup, and if neither Grimes nor Brown hits, we'll see someone else there unless one of them is just knockdown tremendous defensively.

I think Jordan Cooper and Charlie Lowell will be weekend starters along with Tim Kelley. I see Max as a middle relief guy because I don't think he has the stuff to go much more than once through a lineup. I think Lowell will be a weekend guy because we need a left-hander and I think he showed a little better in the fall than Brian Flynn. I'm prepared to be wrong though. Not in many many years have I made spring predictions with less knowledge!
