I can't believe you guys. Ronald Reagan would be shakin his head. Get some confidence. We can finish 36th in our sleep. We don't just get votes because of our reputations, we get top 15 recruiting classes i.e. great players from our reputation and our " returning" COACHES and mobs of confident fans. We go to the super regional and lose a few players- we reload and go back. Most years they underrate us and we outperform and we will do it again this year despite the desire of many on here to accept the crumbs!

Did you just wake up from a coma that started in the 90's?

We are most definitely "rebuilding" this season, not "reloading". Gene has said as much through the press. He's basically stated that he's never lost so much of the core of his team in all of his years at WSU.

A lot of people who have followed WSU baseball for decades would agree that we're going to need a fantastic output from our newbies to even have a shot at gaining a spot in the NCAA tourney.

Gene also does a pretty good job of understating what kind of team he has.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
        RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

If I woke up from a coma that started in the early 90s, I would still have better insight than to take what Gene says before the season as a prediction for weak performance. Just about every team in the last 30 years he has downplayed in some way. But if it makes you feel better to shoot low while our new guys (winners) kick a$$ and take names, feel free.

This team looks alot like the 2005 team minus the experienced Friday starter in Pelfrey. That season we broke in a bunch of young guys like Sublett,Brown,Banwart,Workman,T.Hill,Musgrave,ect. We hit for almost no power outside of Muich yet we still made it to the regional championship in Knoxville. Can't remember if we were the 2 or 3 seed but the opener with Winthrop was a classic duel between 2 current big leaguers in Kevin Slowey and Pelf.I see this team like that one, finishing 1st or 2nd in the valley, having to travel a good distance for a regional and gaining some great experience for years to come. This season will be the foundation for some real great seasons in the future.Maybe even a return to Omaha in 2010 or 2011.But remember,if Fresno state can win the CWS,anything can happen.

Missouri State picked up a #19 ranking from Ping today. That's pretty impressive.

                  You're funny.

                  I sure hope you're right!

Gene is to coaching as Scotty (on Star Trek) is to engineering.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Use to be the day when Gene publically expressed his goal every year was to get to the college world series. He doesn't do that anymore. But I guess when you haven't been their since '96 it gets kind of hard to do that and actually be credible.

We can finish 36th in our sleep. We don't just get votes because of our reputations,
Of course you do. That is all pre-season polls are - votes on reputation

You are describing the 80's and 90's. That hasn't occurred in the 00's - though if this team would reload this year and get to the supers you might be able to say that the Shox are back with 3 supers in row and once with a non-veteran squad.

Most years they underrate us and we outperform and we will do it again this year despite the desire of many on here to accept the crumbs!
Actually that is not true. In Collegiate Baseball Polls since '99 WSU has only outperformed the poll - ONCE. Otherwise

                      Preseason - Final
                      1999 Ranked 1st - Finished 16th
                      2000 Ranked 14th - Finished 28th
                      2001 Ranked 29th - Not Ranked
                      2002 Ranked 9th - Finished 22nd
                      2003 Ranked 30th - Not Ranked
                      2004 Ranked 9th - Ranked 29th
                      2005 Ranked 26th - Ranked 27th
                      2006 Ranked 26th - Not Ranked
                      2007 Ranked 17th - Finished 13th
                      2008 Ranked 9th - Finished 12th

4 times in 10 years Collegiate Baseball had enough confidence to pick WSU in the Top 10, unfortunately WSU has underachieved each time and finished 12-13 slots lower on average.

It would be nice to see WSU overachieve for once, in fact some might say they are due. Maybe 2009 will be that year.

Why should we care about any pre-season rankings really? But since it was being discussed I threw it out there. You must be the only one who puts any stock in the pre-season rankings by BA or Collegiate. Sorry to put your panties in a twist.
