A major component of the time shaved off games is the guaranteed 16 times the teams take the field between innings. Saving probably 1 minute or more each shortens the event, but not the actual game itself, by 15-30 minutes. The only other thing eliminated by this shortening of the event is beer-buying and liquid eliminating time.

Since the timer clock only applies when there are no runners on base and since the average number of infractions per game is about 0.1, what is the big deal about not letting pitchers take two minutes to deliver a pitch?

After attending almost 80% of the NBC World Series, I found to enjoy the clock.

The timer was used for each play, regardless to the number of players on base or the situation. It made for a faster paced game and the players definitely seemed a little less exhausted by the end of the day. The clock also went off 1-2 times during a game, or at least to the ones I attended... it's pretty hard to ignore that buzz.

Maybe we can implement a clock for the non-conference games.. (i.e. the ones where you don't want to touch metal for fear of frostbite and where you lose feelings in your fingers within the first inning regardless of how many layers you put on.

is there anyplace one could find gene's proposal? i personally like the idea but just have some questions about how it works exactly.

oh, and i kind of disappeared during college football season. (twas a very important year for my huskers) so i have a lot of catching up to do and missed way too many discussions.

This looks like it may fly. Is there somewhere I can buy stock in Gene's clock factory?

I understand why most would be in favor of a pitch clock. However, when I was still playing, thats how I controlled the tempo of the game.

As a pitcher, you can use that time to get into a guys head. Also, a batter can be "manipulated" into striking out. If he is an up tempo batter and quickly becomes impatient, the pitcher can slow down time between deliveries. Conversely, if he takes a while to get set up, you can pick it up a little and get him swinging from his heels.
That rug really tied the room together.

I can't imagine it getting much support from the coaches. I see a lot of them calling pitches from the dugout.

I don't know why there would even be any TV considerations since ESPN has proven they have no real desire to televise the sport except for 2 weeks a year. Baseball should not bow to TV when TV gives college baseball nothing.

Hence one of the reasons Gene's sponsoring this rule...Time to take of the catchers' diapers.

Couldn't you just throw over to first (if a runner was on) to delay the game if necessary? I assume the clock would reset each time this happened?

I'm all for speeding up games. These 4-hour marathons kill me.

                    - Make sure the batters stay in the box and don't spend 20 seconds adjusting batting gloves, etc. between pitches.

                    - Find pitchers that throw strikes...or possibly expand the strike zone. All the walks and 3-ball counts drive me nuts.

I played in college, too. But I was a pitcher...so I guess that's why I like fast games. It just seems like the games are getting longer and longer.

The way it works in the MVC trial and the NBC is the clock is turned off whenever runners are on base. No resetting, just plain OFF.
