Phase 1 Fund Raising Complete

As reported in todays online Wichita Eagle:

Athletic director Eric Sexton said he is waiting on final costs estimates on the practice facility planned for the Eck Stadium parking lot. WSU has reached the $4.6 million goal for the first phase of the project, which includes stadium turf and a 22,500-square foot practice building.

Depending on the estimates, Sexton would like to install the turf after fall practices end in October. Construction on the building could start in the spring.

"That's assuming the best," Sexton said. "If (costs) change, then the timeline gets pushed."

Glad to hear we finally made the Phase 1 goal.

So new fieldturf for next season, eh. I'm really curious what sort of design/layout/materials they'll go with in regards to basepaths and around the bags. I guess anything is better than the hair band era astroturf.

This means we are still 1 million short for phase 1. Contractors will use the poor economy, fuel issues as excuses to raise the cost of construction. Damn contractors!
