I guess that since the invitation to the event said "Join Coach Stephenson AND all the new players for the FIRST Battery Club Renewal Party" that those of us in attendance really thought that he would be there.

Why would anyone think that Gene would be involved with that type of wording?

I guess only a dumb*** would think that Gene would be there for the evening.

Maybe Gene was just busy and could not make it?

Why would I be eating crow for anything I said SB? I still stand behind it 100%. I said I didn't blame anyone for questioning why the coaches would be there and I think they should have been. It turns out the invitation said Gene would be there so he should have (by the way, nice catch 32). My point was the baseball office came on Shockernet and explained everything and said they weren't even invited and in fact called during the event and were told not to come. That should change people's attitudes from the coaches were busy or don't care to oh, there was a screw up somewhere.

What I did say, and still maintain, is people made assumptions and said some things that not only proved to be false, but the exact opposite proved true. Turns out the coaches wanted to be there.

Since some of you seem to be having a hard time grasping things i will take it real slow and maybe you will get what I was saying about eating crow...

Gene, Brent, J.T. and Shane could not take the time out of their crushing schedules to make an appearance.

I guess they take the fans for granted and do not care.

Those points were obvioulsy digs at the coaches. I would think once a person found out the coaches weren't invited you might take back a statement such as this unless you are just trying to grind an axe and the facts don't matter to you.

Let's see, he was not invited but she wrote it in the invitation that he would be there but forgot that she had not invited him.

Who did the invitations?

I thought that she ran the Battery Club.

I guess she forgot what she wrote.

Maybe his skiing injury is bothering him and he could not get around.

I think that the poster posing as Shelley is actually Gene covering for himself.

He probably had a hot date that night after practice and just forgot to attend.

Well here I go again---First thing, SHELLEY is not a DEMOCRAT. Second thing, Why are we so hard on our COACH? It seems like when someone gets something on someone, They just can't let it go. I really feel SORRY for someone like that. Third thing, It is to bad that a few PEOPLE(if the shoe fits) can RUIN a good evening of FUN AND EATS for EVERBODY else.
Now the FINAL BLOW. THERE WILL NOT BE A RENEWAL PARTY NEXT YEAR, THANKS.

I can see why people were upset if the invitations said coach would be there even though he wasn't invited according to the poster who says she was in charge.

Shirley has never been the best at handling anything though. But it looks like he succeeded in getting under some of you peoples skin.

For the little time I've been on this site, I've noticed the negativity that is prevalent in some posts. I'm not talking about those who play "Devil's Advocate," hoping to somehow ward off bad luck.
Author Stephen King admitted in an interview that the reason he has written about horrible things happening to children was his hope that in doing so it would somehow prevent those things from happening to his own children. I get that. I do.
For the fans, it's practically a "given" to criticize when things aren't going as well as expected. But, sometimes, that negativity can take on a life of its own, punishing innocent people, and the affect is counter-productive.
I am talking about the team - the players. I have it on good authority that several of them are aware of what is written here. A week ago, I didn't realize this. I have been guilty in the past of airing my frustrations here also.
It is my hope that we can all adopt some restraint and give more thought before we post. Barring that, if we can't write anything nice...perhaps we should write nothing. Just my thoughts....
