    Battery Club Renewal Party

Hi everyone. This is Shelley from the Baseball Office. I am so very sorry that some were disappointed that the coaches were not present at the Party. Let me explain:
First: This is the FIRST Battery Club Renewal Party since the Battery Club was founded in 1994. My goal for the evening was.....have everyone come together, fellowship, have a "bite to eat", renew dues, pick up merchandise AND meet our freshman "boys". The boys worked hard, mingled when they could and truly helped me run a successful evening.
Second: I DIDN'T INVITE THE COACHES! Don't think that they didn't want to be at the party. Why wouldn't they, free food, great crowd - what else could they ask for?? They asked several times and CALLED while the event was in progress. My goal for the evening was to focus on the members and presenting the freshman "boys". I AM SO VERY SORRY IF FEELINGS WERE HURT BY NOT HAVING THE COACHES PRESENT.
Third: I was STUNNED by the comments on ShockerNet. And I quote, "Gene, Brent, J.T. and Shane could not take the time out of their crushing schedules to make an appearance. I am stupified that none of the coaching staff made it. " AND "An appearance from a coach to say, "Thanks", doesn't seem to be asking too much. Of course, I could be wrong again." BLAME ME FOR THIS.
Last but not least, the Battery Club is vital to the programs survival. The funds have paid for numerous jerseys, numerous trophy cases, new lights for the field, a new cover for the field, and travel for the team. The dues have stayed the same since the beginning (1994) and that is because "every little bit matters" and "adds up" in the end.
Once again, I am sorry if ANY members feelings were hurt. This event was meant to be fun and helpful.
If you have a comment, please contact me @ shocker_sec@hotmail.com
Thanks again for EVERYTHING YOU do for Shocker Baseball. SHELLEY

Our next event is October 4th. The coaches and entire team will be present at the Annual Battery Club/Parent Day Picnic at Eck.

P.S. THE FRESHMAN HAD A BLAST AND WILL AGAIN BE IN CHARGE OF THE ANNUAL AUTOGRAPH PARTY IN FEBRUARY.

P.S.S. I will post the Shocker World Series dates to the Battery Club members tomorrow via email.

Well I guess that answers that......

Sometimes a simple question will get a clear answer.

ShockerNet is not as isolated as many of us might think or perhaps want....

I think it's well past time this fan join the battery club.

          Isolation

Thanks to Shelley for the clarification of what seemed like an odd and uncharacteristic omission.

Meanwhile, WuDr, we may not be all that isolated, but if Shirley is a guy and our buddy Charlie from Arkansas is a woman, maybe we should be (although real old timers will recall baseball writer Shirley Povich, the father of Maury -- maybe that's who our cranky Mr. Schmidt was named after).

I was the one that started this and there is no crow being eaten by me.

It was a stupid move on the part of Shelley not to invite the coaching staff.

Everyone that I talked to that evening thought that it was odd that none of the coaches were there.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

                      Shelley ran the meeting.

Sandwiches from Planet Sub, introduced a few of the players.

New field turf scheduled to start going down by mid October and will be ready for next season.

Gene, Brent, J.T. and Shane could not take the time out of their crushing schedules to make an appearance.

I am stupified that none of the coaching staff made it.

I guess they take the fans for granted and do not care.
I understand you questioning the decision of not having the coaches there, but you made some assumptions that were obviously very wrong. You made an assertion that the coaching staff takes fans for granted and do not care, which turned out to be flat wrong. That equals eating crow!

It's not a big deal, and I will give you that it was strange, but if you are going to go out on a limb you need to be prepared for somebody to cut that limb off. Just trying to pass some time in the off season!!! :-)

:posterwu: We have been in the battery club forever and as anyone knows, things don't turn out the way they should. I guess that anyone who is perfect should take over and see just how much work and prepration there is. Al I can say is good luck. People should really find out what is really going on. GO BATTERY CLUB.

I guess that since the invitation to the event said "Join Coach Stephenson AND all the new players for the FIRST Battery Club Renewal Party" that those of us in attendance really thought that he would be there.
