Nobody mentioned the Liberal Beejays' win over defending champion Havasu Heat which came into the game with a 49-1 record.

        1979Shocker,

I thought Hargrove's comment about his team (Liberal Bee Jays) having a "target on our back" was ironic to say the least. If that could be said about any team, it would be the Havasu Heat, with their current record and being last year's NBC champion. We've seen this play out in every sport. The odds of a team repeating a championship the next year, while not impossible, are highly improbable. However, if the Heat make it to the championship, I'll be rooting for them because of Clint and Cody. Unless they're playing against other Shockers. Then, I'm for the underdog. ;-)

Well! All I can say is I'm glad I only had to keep up with the game between the Havasu Heat and the Derby Twins courtesy of NBC Live Scoring. It must have been intense. It was a very tight, defensive game.

The Havasu Heat won 2-0, BOTH runs scored by our very own Keeve (playing 1st base for the Heat).
Clinton went 2-4 with two doubles; Cody Lassley (playing catcher for the Heat) was also 2-4 with two singles.
Taylor Brown went into the game to play left field for the Twins in the bottom of the 6th (I think) and he had his first at-bat in the top of the 8th, reaching on an error by the 1st baseman. He was then bunted over to 2nd and replaced by a pinch runner (I don't remember his speed being a problem?). Anyway, the Twins threatened in the top of the 9th, with two on and two out, but couldn't deliver.

Also, Cody had one stolen base. When's the last time a Shocker catcher stole a base? :D (No offense, Tyler...You know I luv ya. My avatar is proof. :))

Sadly, with Shockers playing Shockers, someone has to lose. :(

Shockers still in the tounament -

Clint Maune, Kevin Hall - Vienna Senators
Ryan Engrav - Santa Barbara Foresters
Justin Kemp, Ryan Scoles - Park City Rangers
Cody Lassley, Clinton McKeever - Lake Havasu Heat
Brett Bascue - Southern California Fire (an interesting tidbit: Tyler Fleming is listed as a coach)
Tyler Grimes, Jordan Cooper, Remington Johnson, Chris O'Brien, Charlie Lowell, Dalton Banwart, Brian Flynn, Chance Sossaman - Wichita Sluggers (Casey Lassley of Wichita is listed as a catcher, birthdate 1992. I'm assuming he's related to Cody?)

When we left the Sluggers game last night the PA guy said they would play the loser of Beatrice and Nevada.I checked the bracket and it confirmed what he had said.I wake up and check to see the result and it says they play the Bee Jays at 7:30.Now i also noticed the bracket had Havasu/Derby winner playing Liberal/Vienna loser.that would have pitted Liberal and Havasu for the second time already.Did they change the bracket because of this?Im confused.BTW J Cooper 13 Ks last night. He is a stud.

How long does Cooper have to sign a contract? Or is signing over with and everyone now is going to school?

5 1/2 days and counting then. That's just too long.

I got out to the Sluggers Cowboys game I think it was Thursday night and Banwart pitched well. Grimes looked really really good, O'Brien looked solid, Sossamon came in to finish and close the game and looked pretty good when he was hitting his spots although lost some control for a couple batters but got it together. Cooper was DH and looked very good with the bat also, and finally Remington looked to have some natural pop in his bat but he was hitting it at guys so all in all I was impressed with all of them but Cooper and Grimes really really impressed me.
