Florida geographics...
The Florida east coast has a lot of folks from the north east...Massachusetts, NJ, New York, etc. The Lauderdale to Miami area particularly (Pompano, Delray, Hallandale, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, etc). And they have extended families back "home". And often vacation there.
The Florida west coast (Naples, Marco, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, etc) is more populated by midwestern transplants.
The "sweet tea line" (where southerners from Georgia and Alabama proliferate) has been steadily moving north from Orlando and is now approximately 30 miles north of Ocala. Above the sweet tea line, your waitress brings you sweet tea automatically when you order iced tea, below the line, you have to specify.
But...most folks want to go somewhere other than where they live to vacation. New cues. Variety. If you live with the sandy beaches of Florida, you want to see the rocky cliffs of Maine. If you live in the mountains, you go to the beach, and vice versa.

You're not confused. Granted I live on the Florida west coast -- almost literally-- but the Floridians I know that take actual vacations, not day trips from home, head to the Carribean, Central America, or Europe. It has been cheaper than staying in the U.S. although that is rapidly changing. Driving vacations are normally limited to going no further north then maybe Tennessee or the Carolinas.
But thats just reflective of my acquaintences and billybud is probably correct in that most here on the Florida west coast are not from the Neast.

shockandawe08,
It seems like yesterday when I said "welcome to shockernet.net. Keep posting!"
Glad to see you took it to heart, you got more postings in a month than I have in a year and a half!! :)
And I've enjoyed each one of your posts, keep it up. :good:

rayc,
Uhhh...if you're sincere, thank you and you have my apologies for trying to read between the lines.
And, yes, I have no life, apparently. In fact, I see myself sticking around even after my favorite Shocker moves on to the next chapter in his life, whatever that may be.
Remember, I still have a young son who could someday be a Shocker. Except, right now, he's leaning toward football. There's plenty of time, though.
I love the challenge of this forum. Except for the fact that my toes hurt just a little. ;-)"She is only HALF a mother who does not see HER child in EVERY child." - Anonymous

We untrailer the Harley, leave the truck at a cousins, and tool around for a couple of weeks between the Cape and Bar Harbor.
Last year was a blast...but this year, we left the trailer and only rode as far as Virginia. With gas at $4.00 plus, the 48 mpg on the Hwy on my Streetglide beat the heck out of the 13 mpg that my Z71 gets hauling the trailer.
And not sure if you’ve ridden the North Shore area just north of Boston on up to Maine. Route 1A hugs the coast all the way up the Mass coastline (Cape Ann) on through the 20-something miles of the New Hampshire shore into Maine. Marblehead, Rockport, Essex, Manchester-By-The-Sea, and Newburyport are a few of the seaside villages which look like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Not to mention this is where you’ll find the best seafood.

Hey..my cousin lives in Taunton..other family in area. We haven't yet taken the bike south to Newport. We have done the Cape area including the islands multiple vacations, and lately have been heading down east.
Our next two weeker will take us more inland to the White Mountains..Wolftrap..etc.
