  • Final top 25 rankings

What does everyone think of Rival.com's final top 25 for this year? They have WSU finishing 14th/pre-season ranking of 23. I'm curious because I'm still a newbie here and I just want to learn all I can. Going from 23 to 14 doesn't sound all THAT bad to me, but what do I know? I also couldn't help noticing our 48-17 record didn't look too shabby next to Fresno State's 47-31, but again, what do I know? I'm just sayin....

    Posted June 30....

Plus, Fresno State wasn't ranked pre-season. Mucho kudos to them. :good:

We're the 3rd worst team to make it to super regionals?

    I don't think so...

It's a product of Kendall Rogers who's about as worthless as wings on a pig.

Rival's is crap. They think if your in the BCS your great and everyone else not so good.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

        Ricky Bobby,

Define "worst." If Fresno is in your categorization, would that be a BAD thing?
Which ranking system does everyone respect around here? Like I said, I'm new to this. :)

          Look at http://www.ncaa-baseball.com/.

          Baseball America: 13. Wichita State
          Collegiate Baseball : 12. Wichita St. (48-17)
          NCBWA: 15. Wichita State
          USA TODAY/ESPN : 13 Wichita State
          Rivals: 14. WICHITA STATE

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

            SpanglerFan316,

With all due respect, those rankiings don't differ that much from what I posted, IMO. Is there something else going on here that I should be aware of? I feel that I am fairly intuitive, normally, though I do read more into things on occasion.

Rivals is just one guy, Kendall Rogers, writing from his mommies basement. Kendall has issues with WSU because they aren't from a BCS conference and thus can't be any good.

                Zardoz,

Ahhh....I get what you're saying. And yet, his wasn't the lowest ranking of the five. I appreciate that you took the time to explain the reason for the over-all skepticism.

Actually..the various rankings (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, etc) are fairly consistant.

Fans, when their team isn't ranked to their liking, many times claim a "bias" by the ranker. That is the answer to why their team isn't ranked higher.

And when many rankers are consistant, than they are all biased. They all favor the BCS teams...no matter that three of the top ranked 11 teams are non BCS or six of the top 25. Those facts just get in the way.

It could be worse...RPI has WSU as #18...or for those that like Boyds Iterative Strength Ratings (ISR)..he has WSU as #26..(I personallly don't like Boyd's index) and think that he is full of hooey.

Why? Because he has the National Champ ranked #25, Georgia as #23...I dunno..it looks fishy to me.

The intent of the ISR is to measure the quality of the entire team season. With any algorithm, it has his biases and positives. Maybe it full of "hooey", but unlike the RPI it based on statistical theory.

I'm sure that if you calculated the ISR for the last 3 weeks, Fresno State would be #1. :D

You must really hate the RPI, it has Fresno State at 51.

Fresno State year was not that great up to the WAC tournament. If they had not won the tournament, they would not have went to the NCAA tournament. But, that's why you play the game and Fresno winning was good for college baseball.

Oh I agree...Fresno had two seasons...they went about 47-31 and got hot late.

In playoff sports the regular season doesn't really count beyond making the cut for a tournament/regionals...f. A team could play mediocre ball in season, get hot in a late streak, and be #1.

That's the nature of play offs...Is Fresno the best team? They won late and were the last man standing...so, yeah..we give them the trophy..but are they really the "best team"...we could argue that for a month

I'd say Fresno was the best team the last month of the season (when it counts the most). Now I wouldn't say they were the best from March through June but that's not how teams are ultimately judged.

If we're talking about teams who have an imaginary national championship because of overall season performance, then I guess we need to add a couple of years to the fascia of the Eck's pressbox.

                          1982 & 1998, maybe?

                          Sillyness...

Hard to argue with the rankings. I do have to wonder about OK State being at #16 and above other regional winners.

The next-to-last Rivals "poll" (of one person) had WSU at #23 and I thought this would annoy people (like me. :D ). The reason I posted five polls was to show that the final Rival poll was in the same ballpark as the other four polls. No slight of anyone was intended.
