I, for one, appreciate billybud's comments and presence on this board.

And he is mostly correct about the 300 miles radius thing, except for Long Beach.

As I posted somewhere else, we are fortunatley to have many quality OOC opponents fairly close, with the Big 12, Arkansas and ORU.

It would be good to get some more games wtih Texas schools, which I guess has started with the TCU series.

Yeah...I saw those early trips...a lot of teams travel to opening tournaments...and then buckle it up as the season progresses. But you have to have money....

FSU, because of sunny climes, often hosts snowbird teams in february.

Except for (about) 10 games in California and Hawaii each odd numbered year (e.g. 2007, 2009). We could add a swing through Hawaii in even years. :D

                  From The Wichita Eagle:

                  Next season

The Shockers open the 2009 season in a tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., hosted by Florida Gulf Coast. Temple and Central Michigan complete the field. WSU plays at TCU and gets Pepperdine and Long Beach State at home for weekend series. BYU visits Eck Stadium for a two-game, midweek set.

The schedule also includes the usual regional rivals Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Oral Roberts.

Not bad for a mid-tier in the middle of nowhere..

Enjoy your visit to Florida Gulf Coast U....they only opened the doors in 1997 and FSU hasn't played tham yet.

I don't know what to expect from Gulf Coast...Stetson plays in their conference and Stetson can occasionally give you a good game. Stetson did beat LSU this year..played FSU four times (2-11, 3-19, 3-13, 3-6). Gulf Coast played Stetson 3X...

                      Gulf Coast vs Stetson..2008

                      5-7...L
                      7-4...W
                      3-5...L

(on an aside...Ft. Myers is almost exactly as far from Tallahassee as is Franklin, NC...)

Just to put this in perspective, no one on the FSU site gives any respect to Stetson, from what I've read, so you can make of that what you will. I know what I make of it.
