  • Charlie Lowell -- St. Louis Dispatch pitcher of the year

LOWELL IS PITCHER OF THE YEAR

A lefthander who has signed to play at Wichita State next season, Winfield senior Charlie Lowell was nearly unhittable every time he took the mound this spring for the Warriors. He went 8-1 with a 0.24 ERA and 129 strikeouts, with only 11 walks, in 58 innings of work. Opponents batted .084 against him.

Lowell struck out 17 in a one-hit shutout against Scott City, struck out 16 in a two-hit shutout against Orchard Farm and twice struck out 15 batters in a game this season.

The southpaw's lone loss was in the Class 3 quarterfinals against eventual state champ St. Dominic. He limited a high-scoring lineup to just one run on two hits, while striking out 11 and walking three in a complete-game effort.

Lowell was selected by the Texas Rangers in the draft's 27th round, No. 813 overall.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'
