I agree with Bob. The bats are one of the reasons I've always been a passive follower of college baseball.

Playing with wood bats would both help and hurt some players when it comes to MLB. At least it would actually be showcasing the talents of those that have it.

I generally don't get on the bash Bob bandwagon, but that article sucked. Anyone can complain about the obvious without investigating or even discussing a possible solution.

Amazing how different people react to the same story.

I thought it was one of Bob's best. (I'm not exactly sure that was a compliment).

Uh, wood bats are the solution. Did you read the article?

It is time for the aluminum to go. Wood bats really aren't that expensive are they?

And I'm sure Universities could just arrange deals with wood bat makers like they do aluminum to help out on costs.

A wooden bat is cheaper than an aluminum bat. Just scanning the first web page I googled the most expensive wood bat is around $150.00 the AL bats can run up to $400.00.

The difference is that the wood bat could crack in batting practice and your out $150.00 while the AL bat won't break and if it does they usually have a warranty.

I love how this topic comes up across the media, on cue, every June. Hey look everybody! College baseball! Ew....what's that ping sound?

Wood bats have their own problems. Every game I have watched this year whether it's minor league or major league, at least one bat has shattered. Not only is this *costly* it's *dangerous.*

I enjoy a good 2 hour pitchers duel as much as anybody but what is so wrong with offense? I like it when my team scores.

Wood bats are not going to bring fans out. You know what brings fans out? Winning. Nice, new, comfortable stadiums. Getting free stuff. A great atmosphere. Sunshine. Not wood bats.

Wood bats are not going to make college baseball a major sport.

But college baseball wouldn't be quite the joke that it is in some circles if they went to wood bats. What's more dangerous, a wood bat shattering or a ball flying off an aluminum bat right at the pitcher? I know they come off of wood bats hard as well but it's not the same. I don't recall any stories of a shattered bat taking people out although I'm sure there are a few out there.

You may have had an argument 10 years ago but now the speed at which the bat comes off an aluminum bat is almost exactly the same as a wood bat. They completely changed the bats in the last 10 years.

I personally don't care if some circles of people think college baseball is a joke. Some circles of people think soccer is a joke. Some people think the NBA is a joke. Who cares.

That article is just a joke! These guys are still trying to make sense out of what happened in Tallahassee. I honestly have not heard this many excuses in my life. Shockernation has more spins on this debacle than you can count. What did you guys really expect our staff era to be anyway?

Nobody is blaming the bats for the loss William. Pull your head out. Bob, like many people, feel that the bats are bad for the game as a whole. How many times does everyone have to say the better team won before you'll listen?

I don't think there's anyone involved that wouldn't prefer wood bats. It's just not been a feasible solution from a cost standpoint. There is a reason why it's never even made it to a serious consideration.

How many colleges do you think could afford to have a baseball program if wood bats were the standard?

Before any change to wooden bats can be considered, there has to be an analysis to make sure the change is carbon neutral.

Also another consideration is how will this affect the amazon jungles (I hear the best wood come from there).
