  • Wow...Watched the TIVO'd Game...ESPN Was Out of Line.

    I. just the last few hours, have watched most of the game on my hard drive (I was at the game).

I was surprised by the appearance of unabashed "FSU love" by the ESPN broadcast team. It is normal for the hosting team to get more publicity since the game is on their field, and the majority of fans are their fans, but...ESPN seemed to me to cross over the line of being a neutral presenter of a sports event.

Even as a Nole guy, I thought that the ESPN crew seemed to present a game that was more akin to something that would be filmed by FSU Media Productions. I guess the ESPN folks thought that they had good story lines with Posey, the crowd antics, etc., but If I was a Shocker fan, I would have been offended.

If you had just watched the game and not followed college baseball, you might not have known that Wichita State has a much bigger name in college baseball than does FSU.

Here is hoping that you guys get a Regional/Super next year and that I get to see your fans on the tube (the ones I met here were older, probably player parents and well off alums).

    Do you guys host often?

We do host fairly often, including a regional and super regional last year.

      Nice

Thanks for your gracious and honest comments, billybud. We've had a number of FSU fans post here who have been a credit to their fan base.

Thank you. I didn't even listen and I got the same message just from watching it.

Here is what our stadium looks like when we host a super regional:

Well, at least the outfield :)

Look, I like the Shockers. I was pulling for them to beat UCI last year and get to Omaha and I know you represent yourself as an FSU fan, but lets not get carried away. I don't think anyone in the college baseball world would consider WSU a bigger name than FSU, let alone a "much bigger" name. Wichita State has been to 7 CWS and won one title. One more title than FSU for sure, but FSU has been to 31 straight regionals and just played in their 8th Super Regional in the 10 years of the format while WSU played in their second. FSU is making its 19th appearance in the CWS, and again, I can acknowledge the futility that has been experienced there, but this is our 9th appearance in the last 18 years. This includes a 7 year drought, which is the longest in the 60 years of our program.

FSU is not on the same level as Texas, USC, Arizona State, CSF, LSU or Miami, but arguably those are the only names "bigger" than FSU in the college baseball world.

As a shocker fan I can pretty much concur with fsugeo.

I wouldn't say WSU is a bigger college baseball name than FSU. IMO both schools are a step back from the LSU, Texas, USC, Miami, ASU level, but both are still historically top 15. IIRC we were ranked 12th all time by the Omaha World Herald a couple of years ago as far as CWS appearances and performance. I believe FSU was somewhere right near us in the rankings.

LOL...I should have said "of late" when talking about WSU and FSU....FSU has had a long dry spell in the post season.

To clarify...FSU is known for its baseball, but baseball is the second sport at FSU...football is the solid headliner. Ask most folks about the Noles, and they start talking football.

WSU is known for its baseball program...and baseball is the headliner...maybe that clarifies what I am trying to say.

I wonder how many WSU fans would agree with this. I bet many consider WSU to be a basketball school...

Nationally we're more known as a baseball school. But around here basketball is king.

I think we are more of a basketball school. I mean just look at our attendance for both of the sports.

But I think all schools have better basketball attendance than baseball so wouldn't you have to compare WSU attendance to national averages?

Step outside Kansas and WSU is a baseball school.

Bobby Bowden's boys will be the easy # 1, but - just for my FYI- are you saying baseball is the clear # 2 over basketball ?

                              That's just shameful :D

What were the average attendence numbers for WSU this year? I know weather hurts early on but I'm curious. We have great attendence in both Basketball and Volleyball and Baseball. But I don't recall ever seeing the Baseball numbers.
