CONFERENCE USA!
I know football is the issue but even with a football program the big 12 is not an option.
Conference USA on the other hand..........
Had 4 teams in regionals this year. Rice is going to the CWS for the 3rd or maybe 4th time in 5 years or something like that. Tulane and Houston are usually solid programs and East Carolina has been good of late. Add WSU to the mix and that is a strong baseball conference. You win that conference and you will be a national seed. As of today's boyds RPI all 5 teams mentioned above would be in the top 45 rpi.
With Memphis getting ready to bail WSU should get football going and join that league (pipe dream but thats ok, I'm allowed)
I don't think it would hurt the other sports too much. Basketball wouldn't be quite the same level but not far behind.
In effect, it would certainly restart our rivalry with Tulsa.
Oh, and I'm always your man for a "bring back football" discussion.

I'd rather see Rice and WSU in the Big XII for baseball.
Reading about those long bus trips the baseball team takes to coyote nowhere Valley campuses made me cringe. Conf USA would have similar bus rides.
The Shox in the Big XII for baseball is a geographic fit for everyone.

It would take D1 football. If we were to add D1 football, we would instantly have overall better programs than nearly half of the B12.
1. Baseball would be a top 2 or 3 program every year.
2. Football would be similar to BU, ISU or KSU if we put some money into it, who knows where it would go from there. Call up Koch!
3. Basketball, we've accomplished same or more than 1/3 of Big 12 teams over the last 10 years. Imagine if we had "BCS" players.
4. Volleyball, Track & Field, and Golf are all NCAA tournament teams and would compete near the top to the B12.
The question is who would the Big 12 drop? Baylor?
But in all seriousness, it isn't going to happen.
Please tell me you are kidding.
You are kidding us or you are drunk.
Which is it?
I say both.Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Awesome baseball conference:
Wichita St.
Rice
TCU
Dallas Baptist
ORU
Missouri St.
Houston
New Orleans?
Play eight conference series (4 at home, 4 on the road)
Bring back the 4 games per weekend, starting on Thursday.
Double elimination conference tournament at a major league park (KC, Arlington, and Houston)
Teams are allowed to fill out their schedule with non-con opponents.
It's just a dream.

The point of my post on here was not that Kansas State is great at football right now. But it is a program that has had some success, has a fanbase that supports its entire athletic department, and has the ability to schedule a home and home with teams like Auburn, Oregon, UCLA, and Virginia Tech. Sure they are having some down years, but to think that program is back on the same level it was when Snyder took over in the late 80s is ridiculous.
And to think that we would be in the same position or comparable to them is ridiculous. Bayor? maybe. KState? absolutely not. I am all for bringing back football, in the right situation, with the right coach and athletic director at the Division 1 level, but it would take several years and millions of dollars from donors to even get the ball rolling. Seriously.

I think our football program was dropped at an inconvenient time. The NFL began its push toward complete major sport dominance about the time baseball fell off the earth in 1994. College football is more popular than ever. Football is where it's at, and everything else should follow.

Agreed TW! Getting football back to WSU should be a major focus for the new AD. IMO, the problem with the old program centered on:
-- a lousy conference where people simply did not get excited to play Drake, SIU, NMSU, West Texas State, etc
-- A terribly designed stadium (would have been better off being half as high with an enclosed endzone which would bring the fans closer to the field. It wasn't exactly "an event" to attend a WSU football game and the stadium design didn't help.
Attendance at WSU has fallen since football was dropped, and less and less 4-year students are probably attending (anecdotal). If WSU does not want to simply exist as a "commuter school" then football must return.
However, I'd certainly like to see WSU get into the Big XII for baseball first, and I wish our new AD would work towards making that happen. I'm quickly losing ANY interest in the Valley! I want bigger things for WSU athletics.

TW,
My point was baseball only, and I completely agree about football.
However: step #1 for the athletic department should be to complete the indoor practice facility and improvements to Eck.
Then, I'd love to see some sort of effort to gauge the interest of alumni/fans/students/boosters about a return to football.
The last public campaign was 1995 (Alive in '95), which was 13 years ago. The landscape of college athletics is completely different from even then.
