Can Shox move to the Big XII

What will it take for the Shox to move to the Big XII in baseball? Does anyone know of any recent discussions about a potential move?

I simply don't get that excited about the Shockers winning the MoValley, and would much rather see WSU playing weekend series with good teams from the Big XII. Additionally, it would help our recruiting. While the streak of winning 40+ games per season might be in jeopardy, I think overall, the move would be beneficial to the program.

WSU needs to leave the Valley.

It would never happen. KU and KSU would block it and the Valley wouldn't be happy. We still need the Valley for everything else since there really aren't any options available to move to another conference. And I'm not sure what the legalities would be for being in another conference when the conference we're in offers the sport.

It would take D1 football. If we were to add D1 football, we would instantly have overall better programs than nearly half of the B12.

1. Baseball would be a top 2 or 3 program every year.

2. Football would be similar to BU, ISU or KSU if we put some money into it, who knows where it would go from there. Call up Koch!

3. Basketball, we've accomplished same or more than 1/3 of Big 12 teams over the last 10 years. Imagine if we had "BCS" players.

4. Volleyball, Track & Field, and Golf are all NCAA tournament teams and would compete near the top to the B12.

The question is who would the Big 12 drop? Baylor?

But in all seriousness, it isn't going to happen.

I am sorry, but starting from absolute scratch this program would be nowhere near any of those 3 schools in Football. Especially Kansas State. In fact, I am not sure why KState was listed with those other 2 schools. It is amazing to me that a program that has accomplished so much over the past 20 years is considered so bad by some because of a couple of down years. Wichita State, which hasn't had football in over 20 years now, would instantly be comparable to a program that is still in the top 20 in the country in winning percentage over the last 15 years. Unbelievable.

The easy answer is nothing; it won't happen.

There have been teams that played baseball in different conferences than their own -- the Pac-10 used to have 12 baseball members, for example, with Gonzaga, Portland, and one other I don't recall on board for that sport alone (Oregon hasn't played for a while, although they're restarting). But they haven't done that for some time now.

The Big 12 has 10 baseball programs, which is a reasonably convenient number; 11 would be awkward. Plus, even though playing WSU three times a year would be a good RPI series, there are no doubt some who wouldn't want to come to Wichita for a series every other year, figuring that their RPIs will be good enough to get them in at large anyway (Texas and Texas A&M come immediately to mind). So aim your fantasies elsewhere.

I'm asking whether any discussions have been taking place for the Shox moving to the Big XII for baseball only? Obviously, we can't move to the Big XII for all sports.

On a separate note, I was not the least impressed with the OSU campus. Granted, a lot of money is being poured into the football complex, and supposedly the baseball stadium will be refurbished or replaced.
However, all-in-all I'd write that the WSU campus is much nicer.

Anyways, there is a marked difference between a "couple of down years", and a trendline that doesn't look to move up in the foreseeable future. Even the majority of K-State fans can see those days are over, and don't look to be returning anytime soon. Go to a K-State board and check the pulse of the majority of posters if you don't believe me. The quality program level, if you will, is viewed in the past tense. The "Decade of Dominance", or "DoD" as it is referred to on the K-State boards is considered to have come and gone.

I really do appreciate what Bill Snyder accomplished at K-State in his tenure, but a weak finish to his career and a lame hire has basically negated all of his work. It will take another miraculous hire like BS to return to those days, and I think you can guess the odds on that.

BTW it wouldn't take much of a football program to get to BU's level. Heck, throw field turf down at Cessna stadium and you'd have a comparable facility to BU.
