  • Sorry Guys...But C. Gillaspie is a freakn Gamer

Let me preface this by saying I have never met him.

I do not care about him not talking to the media....hell would you talk to some intern working for the Giants calling your phone--or Lutz working for the Eagle?

The dude was pissed. Do you blame him?

He should have been drafted earlier.

There are some players that are just born with "it". He was born with "it."

    "It" translates into a STUD.

He will rake in the minors and will play in the majors.

Every team needs somebody like him.

His glove will not be all of that, but his bat (and attitude make up for that). There will be a lot of scouts that will be scratching their heads wondering how he did not get drafted in the first round.

In closing (as a Royals Fan), I see a skinnier Billy Butler.

Know why I'm pissed? It's because certain Big XII schools are too chicken to play a home and home series with WSU.

I'm sure that Conor is thinking about team achievements as much as he is his personal situation.

Thanks for the kind comments, regardless.

Conor is, in my opinion, not a naturally gifted athlete, like say maybe a Kenny Williams or Dusty Coleman. He's the quintessential self-made man. He is where he is because of determination and hard work. That's cliche, but never more true than for Conor Gillaspie. He just works harder and longer than anyone and he has been a leader in the "do as I do" tradition of great baseball players. In my heart he is a "poster child" for Wichita State baseball. Gritty, determined, great work ethic, never quits. If we get to Omaha, it will be in large part because Conor (and others) led us there. I never knew Eric Wedge personally, but I think Conor is a player very much in that tradition. When the question is asked, "where have the Eric Wedges gone?" the answer is "they may be rare, but they do still exist, and Conor Gillaspie is a walking non-talking example!" :-)

You don't need to apologize we have known that he is a gamer for years.
I had Martin explain to me three times what he got arrested for because it sounds an awful lot like what I do here every day.

Like, from DAY 1 of fall practice of his freshman year. There has always been something a little "different" about Conor. :-)

I knew he was my kind of player from the minute I saw him practice. I saw him made to look stupid on a change up and he threw his bat down and kicked it and went and sat in the corner of the dugout and wouldn't talk to anybody. At practice!!! You got to love a guy that is so intense!

This is my first post in the baseball forum--to be honest, baseball just isn't my favorite sport (basketball is more my speed) but I have to say that in watching the baseball team on their great run this year, Conor has to be my favorite player. He just plain gets after it and there is no quit in this guy.

If the Shocks make it back to Omaha, he will be a big part of why they make it.

As I said, baseball isn't my favorite, but this team sure is fun to watch!

                  GO SHOX!

I'm embarrassed but not shy about admitting that my interest in the WSU baseball team began when I saw them on TV in 1988. Being on national TV in the post-season is a good thing.

Just for giggles, here's a comment from a Creighton fan comparing Darin Ruf to CG:

What do you think? Conor Gillespie was taken with the 37th pick and I'd rather have Darin on my team anyday.

                        LOL..

Nothing like Creighton jealousy, at it's finest.

I wonder if Mr. Ruf prefers sitting at home to playing in a super regional. Well, at least he's wanted by baseball's best fans.

                        ... No really, deuces.
