  • When checking our board...

...take it with a grain of salt. As I'm sure happens on every board, idiotic fans come out in droves upon a loss.

Couple notes from an FSU fan as I didn't take time to go through all 34 pages of the game thread...

You guys got a better starting pitching effort and tagged us up pretty good in the in the 4-6 innings and that was the difference.

Both teams play with the same umps. Sure some calls were questionable, but they didn't lose us the game.

Not sure what to take of the hard slides into second. In the stands it looked unnecessary, but its the post season and breaking up a double play could be what moves you on. Haven't seen the replay but I would expect our guys to do the same thing in that situation (as long as its not with the intent to injure obviously).

Overall it was a good, exciting game although the outcome wasn't what I would have liked. Looks like our hope is to gets to Sunday since Capra (edited) was used as I think that would benefit us.

I respect FSU a lot. A good college baseball game.

Great game, FSU's offense (especially in that ballpark) is terrifying. I feel very fortunate to get out of today with a win.

Our best chance is to close this out tomorrow. Hopefully Aaron has another Stillwater-esque performance in the tank. I expect it will be hotter than hades and extremely difficult to go past 7 innings. If he can, we should make him a Shockernet purple heart for his efforts.

Another thing to remember is that most of the fans positing immediately after the game where the ones not actually in attendance.

BTW, the name is Capra, and after having seen only one batter, I would assume that he is still on to start on Sunday.

Your boys made it through today so I'm sure they'll be fine tomorrow. I don't think it will be much hotter. The only difference would be the wind as it was a decent breeze out to left.

Has Capra came in relief before and then started a couple days later or do you think you'll use him in relief again to try and get out in two? If the latter is the case, who would be your Sunday starter?

            First off classy post.

Capra only threw 3-4 pitches which will have zero effect come Sunday.

No, Capra has not come in in relief all season, but he only threw 4 pitches, he was going to throw 20-30 today anyway in a side session. He won't pitch tomorrow, if he does for some odd reason, we have a very capable 4th starter to throw.

Anthony only threw 4 pitches and he would have thrown bullpen today anyway so after a week of rest he'll be fine if it gets to Sunday.

Exciting game today. Surprised so many empty seats.

AC was in the pen as a frosh so he has the attitude for it.

I agree with BostonWu, with only throwing a handful of pitches I think he will be our #3 starter. If we used him again in relief, then our #3 guy would likely be Tim Kelley.

Thanks for the info...I wasn't sure what type of schedule you're guys were on as far as their side work so it sounds like he'll be ready.

Just hoping it gets to that point where we have to worry about Sunday. :D

And with that, I'm out for lots of drinks. Good luck tomorrow.

Our pitching coach Brent Kemnitz had his coaches show right after the game. His quote was that they talked about it and would only use him for a couple of batters if they used him. Today is his normal day to throw anyway...He will not be used tomorrow and he will start if needed sunday.

He was used in relief last year and has the mentality to do that. Thats why we used him today and also because I think Gene gave the green light.

You guys are first class and given everything we still came close to getting beat.

As far as the hard slide...my replay shows the first one with your guy 2 feet to the right of the bag...its hard for any slide not to look bad in that situation....but I cant see that it was....bad place to be with a guy coming in hard....The second one was clean I thought though im a bit biased....his legs came up a bit but by the time they did his butt was on the bag.

The ump was off today ..that being said I think a little went both ways...he was pretty good until the 5th or so...and our radio guys said he started to tighten things up a bit. He called a strike against FSU then just changed it to a ball. Which is when Gene came out and got him to smile and laugh a bit. Dont blame your guys for not liking all the calls and no problem here with them complaining about the balls and strikes...if we had lost Im sure we would of as well. I think one guy said we were a dirty team...

Again you all ..and by all I mean all of you except for a couople and we have ours as well. have been some of the best fans around and have every right to be proud of your team because they are scary good. WSU has a ton of work to do yet to get out of Tallahassee with two wins.

                        Re: FSU vs. WICH ST.
FSU has not lost 2 games in a row this year with the exception of the 3rd game in the Miami series and the 1st with UNC. With that said, I certainly did not "overlook" WSU, I knew they were good and I looked at their starter's ERAs and figured it would be a good series. Kudos to them, they've got a great team and some really nice fans. I enjoyed talking to some of them today. The one thing I will say though, is that they are dirty. Twice they spiked Delmonico and thanks to that he had to get four stitches and is out tomorrow from the injury. That'll hurt our offense. But hey, I guess that's why you spike guys. Just a note though, for any of you who haven't heard Mike Martin talk, the guy has class. When question in the post game about the spiking incidents, he threw off some "NCAA won't allow me to say anything crap" because he has respect for the other team and won't insult them, he just doesn't do that. You could tell in his voice that he was pretty PO'd though.

This guy is an idiot. When Delmonico was injured, this was the FSU second baseman's fault. He tossed the ball too high and led Delmonico along the baseline toward first; the WSU runner had nowhere to go and could not avoid the contact. Look at replays. FSU fans lose a lot of respect in my book when they post things like "they are dirty."
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I'll admit my bias, however if the kid either 1)wasn't hurt due 100% to the fault of his own player or 2) not been in the game anyway since he was hurt then the 2nd play doesn't even draw attention. It wasn't even that hard of a slide and by the book, right into the base, but since the guy was limping anyway of course it drew the ire of the home town fans.

They were wrong to complain, and I feel most of them will admit to it when they get a chance to digest all of it.

I promise you the slide was not one iota harder than the FSU kid that tried to break up the dp we turned late in the game.

As for the first slide, if anyone should be pissed it's WSU. Our guy is sliding into the bag and the gomer-ass second baseman flips the ball into the line. That's what made their guy get into position as if he was blocking the bag. We're lucky a guy in black and gold doesn't have a broken leg right now, because I've seen that happen on the exact same play.

As for the second slide, that was dirty. At least in the college game.

On the 2nd slide it looked to me as though he was trying to get as close to "directly into the base" as he could but still try and break up the DP. That could also be my bias speaking, but three inches to the left and it's no big deal.

His foot didn't come up until it was well under Delmonico and his left leg (the ijured one) was already well clear.

I'm also with WuDrWu. If not for the first one, caused by the FSU 2nd baseman, nobody says a word about the 2nd slide. So I wouldn't go so far as to call it "dirty".

Having said that, he probably should have been thinking about how anything other than a by-the-book slide would be seen in that situation, and gone right into the base. So I don't blame the FSU fans for getting upset. We probably would too if the situation was reversed.
