  • SEC Schools propose increase in schollie limit to 14.7

Just came across this article and thought it should be posted...

Basically, trying to get the NCAA to increase the limit on scholarships to 14.7 from 11.7.

I don't follow baseball as much as basketball, but have developed a fondness for the sport so am trying to understand more. I didn't realize that baseball players were only on "partial" scholarships, and that we only have 11.7 (what a wierd number and I'm sure there is a logical explanation as to how this number came about) scholarships for some 35 to 40 students. Are they all on partial scholarships? Is there a dollar limit for each scholarship? How are 11.7 scholarships spread over 40 some student athletes? Is there other aid (that the athlete doesn't have to pay it back) available.

I know that basketball is limited to 13 scholarships, but with a roster of around 15, that's okay. I assume these are considered "full" scholarships but do they cover everything (living expenses)? Is there again a dollar limit on each scholarship?

I don't know anything about football scholarships except that the number is somewhere around 85, which again I assume are full scholarship.

Sure hope someone out there can explain all this to me. It would help my understanding of how all this works.
