If we would have brought our 'good' stuff, then we would've taken this thing. As it is, we didn't bring it.
That's what great hitting can do to good pitching.
Give them credit. Just because people like to throw little cliches around like good pitching beats good hitting doesn't make them 100% true. We do have good pitching. We just don't have the plus plus stuff that can beat a line up full of guys that can get extremely deep in counts and drive secondary pitches.
I don't think you saw our walk/hbp/wild pitch stats for the series.
They have good bats, but good pitching would've held em in check, like it always does. Our weekend guys didn't bring it, so therefore we got 25 runs scored on us in the last two games.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Walks, hbp, and wild pitches are never a result of good hitting??
Folks this just wasn't indiana state, that's all. You can't look a pitching statistics from the valley and assume anything good or bad. Fsu made us look like every other staff they faced all year which makes us average I guess, Good effort by the guys, they played their guts out and I'm proud of them. There is no reason to hang our heads, we got beat by a better team, congratulations to the seminoles on a well played series.

I agree 100% with everything you said William, but my point was that I feel we were put behind the 8ball before the series even started with their reputation and were forced to battle uphill all weekend, for no reason other than reputation. I also believe that a big part of that was of our own doing.

I agree with WuDrWu if he's talking about us constanly trying to make the perfect pitch. I thought some of our most successful pitching came from guys like McKeever, Kelly, Smith, and a couple others who just came in throwing strikes and letting them put the ball in play.
It seemed like the starters were trying to throw borderline pitches that put them behind in the count and allowed FSU batters to work ahead in the count and sit on fastballs.
The exception to this may have been Shafer who I felt had good stuff, but just had the balls hit to the wrong parts of the ball field. Some times that happens no matter how well you throw.
First of all, the umpires did a fine job with the series, don't believe that? then you are just a whiner.
Second, the approach to beat fsu with location, and painting the corners was indeed a bad one. (talk to your pitching coach about that)
We could have challenged fsu more by attacking the strike zone and tried to keep them off balance with change of speeds, but frankly that would not have worked either.
What beats a team of this caliber is simple, nasty, filthy, big league stuff or luck, and we had neither.
Our big 3 turned out to be quite average under the microscope of a top-tier team, oh well they are still great kids.
Our pitcher failed to locate. Maybe they were trying too hard to make the perfect pitch and not just going out there and doing what they do best. It would have been a tough series anyway but it would have been a lot more interesting if our guys were doing what they've done all year.
Although Capra did do just about what he's been doing recently...
Our starting pitching (which was supposed to be our strength going in) really failed us this super regional. I think if either Shafer or Capra come out and even pitch decent we go to Omaha.
I think BK does a fabulous job with our pitchers (how can you not), but with that being said, they seem to crumble when it counts. Our offense gets criticized all year, every year, but seems to really step it up in the post season.
Think back to the OU regional three years ago when we only had to win one of two games. Our pitchers couldn't get an out and gave up 19 runs on 25 hits in two games while our offense put up 13 runs on 23 hits.
Last year our pitchers performed well in the post season, but this year in our last 4 games we game up an AVERAGE of 9.75 runs and 12.75 hits. I realize OSU and FSU were very good teams, but we still scored 7.25 runs and had 9.75 hits per game which is as good or better than we averaged all season. It appears that when we get to post season for some reason our offense and pitching switch places from during the season...
As for Nanney, it seems to me that he started "losing" it not long after being referred to as "The Vulture," but I could be wrong. And the others who suddenly seemed to fall apart in pressure situations - I don't know what the answer is for that. How do you judge a person's ability to handle a clutch situation when you're recruiting?

"Ah the old axiom does hold true as the seminoles are dispatched after two games facing good pitching. "
Yeah..sort of, I guess...The Noles did have 18 hits yesterday and 23 on board the bases..the trouble is that they also stranded 17 to set a CWS record.
The Noles hit alright, the spacing was just unlucky. The Nole runner thrown out at home and the runner thrown out at third made a lot of difference in the game.
I think, that with the better pitching that you get in the CWS, teams that hit the long ball are at an advantage over the spray hitting clubs. In close games, a HR driving in a few runs makes a huge difference.
Oh well...this is like Groundhog Day for us guys....some day we'll break the spell.

There is always next year...right?
But what happened to the good WSU pitching vs. FSU? Sometimes when you are on a roll, you are on a roll and it can stop just as fast as it started. Just ask Roy Hobbs.
Yeah..and what happened to the WSU hitting at FSU? All the Shocker comments on the board about FSU's field being a small park...yet only 4 runs scored in each of WSU's last two games. Small park equates to a lot of runs and hitting. right? Maybe not all of the time...maybe you are right about streaks.
The FSU park really isn't all that small...sure, the right field line is only 320 (vs 335 for Rosenblatt)..but there is a 30 foot screen on top of the right field fence that has to be cleared. Left field is 340 (longer than Rosenblatt) and center is 400 feet (Rosenblatt 408).
Most of the right field HR's that I saw at Omaha would have been off the screen at FSU.
Can someone post the dimensions of Tyler field in comparison...I couldn't find it on the net but I browsed some pictures.
