  • Capra should be moved to the bullpen this weekend.

I think Capra should be moved to the bullpen for the following reasons:

    1. He has struggled his last 5 or 6 starts. Maybe a change is exactly what is needed? He was nails out of the bullpen his Freshman season and most of last season before being moved to a starting role.
    2. There is no Sunday unless you win Friday or Saturday. Especially against a team that can hit like FSU.
    3. Our bullpen needs help. Capra could pitch in two games instead of maybe not at all. Relief on Friday and Saturday or Friday and Sunday.
    4. I don't think you can expect complete games from both Musgrave and Shafer against FSU.
    5. I think against FSU we will need to have a VERY quick hook. If I guy isn't on GET HIM OUT OF THERE and let him try again another day. This means a strong bullpen will be at a premium.

Also I think we have one other advantage in pitching. We have two pitchers who have started and pitched deep into Super Regional games in Musgrave and Shafer. I hope the experience from last year can translate into some poise on the mound. I think if Musgrave can throw up some zeros Friday FSU will remember the Bucknell game and start to have some doubts. NO EXTRA OUTS THIS WEEKEND!!!

I completely disagree. Leave Capra where he is. We have enough arms with Hoch, Nanney, McKeever and Fleming to handle the relief effort. We can even look at bringing in Tim Kelley in relief during one of the games since we won't need a 4th starter.

i will respectfully disagree. Hes our best available guy after shafer and musgrave. If it goes to game 3, who do you want to start?

KELLEY!!! He is going to be the anchor of the pitching staff next year. He should be given the shot and then by committee after that.

What if it doesn't go to Sunday. Then your best available guy doesn't even throw a pitch.

Great. Then let them pitch Sunday. It is just a thought and I think it needs to be given some consideration. I actually think Brent and Gene may do this...

It will all be determined by what happens in the first two games. If we win the first game...we can save Capra for Sunday. If we lose Friday...then we have to do whatever is necessary on Saturday to survive.

I agree, that is the only scenario that I can see it happening.

Shockfan89, let me get this straight... You want to send our #3 starter all year to the bullpen in place of our #4 starter who hasn't pitched in a game since may 13? You want to send one of our 2 All-American Pitchers to the bullpen for a redshirt freshman who is yet to prove himself ( no offense to Tim who I feel will be fine in the future) And you want to send our 9-0 pitcher with a sub 3 e.r.a. to the bullpen in place of our Redshirt freshman pitcher with a record of 4-4 and a 5.4 e.r.a. in a game that would be the end of our season should we lose? Makes sense to me, call Gene now and let him know that him and Brent are nuts for leaving Cappy in the rotation.

You got it. I agree with everything you said, but how stupid would we feel if our 9-0, all-american stud, with a sub 3 ERA never took the mound in the Super Regional? Capra is the one of the three that we know can easily adapt to starting or throwing in relief.

Of course my point depends on how things go, but if Musgrave is done after 6 innings and it is a winnable game, why not let Capra close it out and then he would be available to do the same thing on Saturday or pitch 3 or 4 innings in relief on Sunday?

The thing you have to remember about a super regional is there are only 3 games no matter what, and only two if you don't win one of them. We need our best available pitcher on the mound at ALL times, not just to start games. Especially against a team that can score runs in bunches like FSU.

I disagree. He would get to pitch in Omaha.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
