WSU and FSU have a little history, playing 6 times. Interestingly, no games in Kansas or Florida. WSU leads the all-time series 4-2. The most recent game was in the Hormel Classic in Minneapolis in '99 with the Shox winning 8-1.
WSU played FSU in its most recent CWS appearance in '96 in a game #2 elimination game. FSU won that game 8-4 to eliminate the Shox quickly from the tournament.
Then there's 1989. Ah, '89. WSU and FSU met 3 times in that CWS.
After beating Arkansas in game #1, WSU lost game #2 to FSU 4-2 to drop into the losers bracket. That first '89 WSU-FSU game was my first exposure to the original tomahawk chop and the famous war chant. We sat near a big group of FSU fans during game 1 and I bet I heard this one toothless genius yell "Semino-o-o-o-le Rally" a hundred times.
WSU then eliminated Arkansas in game #3 and had to beat FSU twice to advance to the CWS championship game (old format, two-sided bracket with 1 championship game). WSU won those next two games 7-4 and 12-9 to set-up the showdown with Texas and the '89 National Championship.
Does another WSU CWS appearance involve FSU in '08?
