  • Test Time for the Big Three (part deux)

FSU hits it a ton according to their stats sheet, but they have not seen a weekend rotation as good as ours all season. Posey is really something.

I was not aware that Florida State drew so well for their games. Should be a raucous environment with only a smattering of Shocker fans.

I have heard that the ball jumps out of Dick Howser Stadium in a manner similar to Allie P Reynolds. This would seem to advantage the 'Noles, but one also would have thought such a trait would favor the Pokes as well.

Their ace will be winded, even if game 1 is on Saturday. Let us hope it is on Friday, but I doubt we will be so lucky.

I hope we never even need to see our bullpen this weekend, but if we do, it looks like Hoch and McKeever (and possibly Nanney) will be the primary options. Oddly, I feel confident in this trio to hold the fort for several innings.

    FEARLESS PREDICTION:

    Game 1

Musgrave throws yet another complete game, as he bulldogs through several more solo shots.

    WSU 5, FSU 4

    Game 2

Shafer shows why he goes in the sandwich edition of the 1st round in the 2008 draft, with a near replica of his Stillwater gem. No wild pitches on third strikes helps make the difference.

    WSU 4, FSU 2

FSU will not be held to less than 4 runs in any game we play against them. These games will be more like 10 to 8 and 9 to 6.

Why such confidence in this prediction. They were just shut out a few days ago. It isn't like he predicted godzilla was going to come ashore during the series.

That was the first time all season they were shutout. Perhaps they overlooked Bucknell just a little bit. I do not believe we will hold FSU to the ERA's that our starting three have. They didn't do it in Stillwater, they won't do it at FSU, not against that line-up.

If we can keep these guys less than 6 runs, perhaps 7 per game, we got a chance. From here on out, it is going to take flawless baseball on our part to win. No giving extra outs, no unearned runs allowed, timely hitting and obviously great pitching.

I do believe in the old adage that good pitching beats good hitting, but I'm pretty sure these guys make pitchers pay on mistake pitches - EVERY TIME.

Sorry if this is a bad question but....Looking at Musgrave and Shaffer's numbers over the weekend would you pitch Shaffer friday because of his better game against OSU than Musgrave's?
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

Good question. It might be dangerous to disrupt a man's routine. Musgrave is a fly ball pitcher and FSU's ballpark is small. It will be hot and humid there - making for a perfect place for the ball to carry.

You saw what happened to 4 fly balls in Stillwater which resulted in 4 homeruns. I say leave it be, but Musgrave is going to have to keep that ball down on these guys.

At least I don't have to re-add the sports pack back on DirecTV so that I can watch them.

                    Just a couple of thoughts

I'm not sure who our ace is right now, but arguably our hottest picture is Villanueva, and he definitely is not winded. Martin does mix up the rotation , as he did for the ACC tourney, so who knows right now who Friday's starter will be.

Another little factor I'll give you guys some insight on. Might be an issue, maybe not.

I've lived in Tally my whole life and I can't believe how hot it was last weekend. My pool deck was so hot it felt like it was blistering my feet, and it was just May (this was Saturday). In the regional, we had more guys falling out from cramps, eating bananas in the dugout, etc. than I've ever seen, including the FSU and UF guys.

These games are all during the day because, supposedly, ESPNU believes our lights aren't up to high def standards (that's a new one on me - I've never heard that and we've televised hundreds of night games over the years), so it may be hot as hades out there (and humid).

Looking forward to having you guys visit. It's always a treat to see the great programs come in.

Its getting hotter than crap out here as well.

The guys should be used to extreme heat and humidity considering they are mostly all from the this area. But we'll see.
