With Title IX, if you add 3 schollies in baseball, you have to add at least 3 for women. I wouldn't be surprised if it would be 4.
Instead of adding the cost of 3 schollies, you're adding the cost of 6. That's likely to be $125K - $150K a year.
Take a school like SIU, which struggles to maintain facilities and is probably a couple mill in the red already. Add that much more to their cost to compete and they've got a major problem. To keep baseball, they almost have to drop something.
I don't mean to single SIU out. I'm certain there are many other D1 schools in the identical situation. SIU is simply one we're familiar with. It's easy to "put a face on it" with the SIU example.
