  • ESPN Slighted Shox, McKeever

Hope this hasn't been posted elsewhere, but I was totally taken back while watching ESPN this morning. They were showing the Top 10 Plays of the Day, got to #2, and it was Mercer hitting his 3rd homer against TCU, then they quietly said "they lost later that day". No mention of WSU. Then I was expecting to see McKeever's heroics as #1....but no. How could being cut by the Pokes, pitching two shutout innings in relief, driving in the tying run in the ninth, and hitting a grand salami in the 10th to win the regional not be at least one of the Top 10 of the day and should have been the #1. Where is their nose for a great story!?!?

ESPN must suck all the time.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

The morning Sportscenter is a usually a replay from late Sunday nite. CM's dinger will probably be on tonite. I don't think that it has any thing to do with us. It just happened too late to make SC. You might check ESPNews later today also.

I'd be real surprised if that doesn't get some press.

The mainstream media has no idea regarding college baseball.

True, but ESPN does have a vested interest in promoting it. The issue here was purely timing. Clinton just waiting too long.

However, they darn near jinxed us. Right after Clint's HR, the crawl on the botom of the ESPN screen said ' Wichita St 11, Okla St 7, Wichita St advances to Super Regional" and OSU hadn't even come up in the bottom of the 10th yet.

I think there were 3 people in that stadium that didn't think the game was over at that point, even when OSU got on. After their pitcher and catcher melted down, everyone knew it was done.

                  So ESPN knows wtf :)

7hottamles -- I hope you're right. But after today's games, we'll see how many college baseball highlights make the Top 10 Plays, including McKeever's. I hope I'm dead wrong about it.

After living through Fayetteville 2004, you can count me as one of those three. :D

I was on pins and needles until the very end.

The problem with ESPN showing college baseball highlights is the nearly complete lack of quality- or even decent- video stock to use. If the NCAA didn't have such a mancrush on itself, maybe some regional production companies could show and record games like last night's with even a passable FoxSports level of quality.

I had to call in to the radio station down here in Austin....they were going through some of the regional scores...mentioned Okie St. beating TCU, then said they are still alive - I couldn't help but call in and correct 'em.

Right on the money. I watched it last night. This had nothing to do with some BcS BS, it was just a late game.

I'm not sure how that play was number 2, but Ankiel's catch was deservedly #1.
