Comparing their current park to the ECK is like comparing West Urban to ECK....I just hope those folks were drunk last night while writing their posts. I like OSU for the most part, their fan base seems to have more common sense then most of the other fan bases in the Big XII. Here's to kicking some A** tonight!! :goshocks:

No doubt it was close but I really think he beat it out although I will admit that call does NOT usually go to the runner. The fact you think he was out makes me rethink my position but I had a great view, and I swear Josh got there in time. Thank God for sprinter speed.

A number of them complimented us on how well Shafer pitched, and congratulated us on the win. By the same token, I was pleased at the behavior of my fellow Wichita State fans. After the game there wasn't a lot of hottin' and hollerin' and no trash talk. Not that I heard anyway.
WSU fans, mostly, know we have been there before and last night's game means absolutely nothing if we don't win 1 of the next 2....something we have found exceedingly tough to accomplish more often than not. I was most certainly proud to be WSU fan last night, not only because we won but more importantly because they way our fans represented our school.

If the answer is no, then why on Earth would you take the bat out of Andy's hands? He's hitting .395 with 57 RBI (out of the leadoff spot). I want Dirks swinging. By the way, counting his GDP today, that makes a grand total of ONE on the season.
You would have ripped me a new one David. I was not happy with that decision at all and while I will bow to your vastly superior baseball knowledge I would like to add 1 nugget that was swaying my angst at the time. As hot as Andy is, CG is white hot and clutch and in the heads of his opponents. I realize (now) how unlikely the GDP was but it also took away the chance to have Conor bat with runners on in a big spot. That is the reason I was frustrated at the choice. Btw, as I quietly voiced my frustration to my friend, I did follow that up with the "I don't have 1600 wins and a NC so I defer to the one that does". :)

Play like that, from somewhat unexpected places, are where legends are born.

This is the best argument I have heard for why Dirks should have bunted. Honestly I didn't even consider that last night.

As for the OSU fans... It is hard to have the kind of #'s they have and see your team get completely shutdown with good pitching. Think of how frustrated we are when it happens to us. I did read on their site where a poster said good offense wins championships. I has always thought good pitching wins championships. Good hitting just makes good pitching more difficult. :D

(Setting the stage, after OSU had scored a run and threatened more in the 7th, threatened again but didn't score in the 8th, and was coming up in the 9th needing only 2 to tie)

"Needless to say, Aaron Shafer needs a quick inning"

The issue in a few years ago at the regional in Arkansas, if I recall, is a starting pitcher coming back in relief with just a day or so of rest.
Everything I've read says that with how pitchers throw today, this is one of the most dangerous things you can do to a guy's arm.
How do they throw differently today?
I was talking about in the pre and post Ruth eras. The whole idea of having to bear down with every batter because everyone at plate represents the potential home run threat. Pitching changed greatly in the era of Ruth and beyond. No longer did you have guys like Cy Young and Satchel Page that would go out and work every single day. To throw light and easy like they did and then to mix in some power allowed you to throw a heck of a lot more. Well, that same approach on the mound today would get you killed.

And this more power mentality has just been on a steady rise since then. Today you have guys that get on the mound and give it all they have +10% and when they are done, they are done. That arm is injured and it needs recovery time. To go throw some more is just asking for injury.

then how do you explain greg maddux in his prime? tom glavine? there are more, just cant think of them at the moment. i thought the difference would be how pitchers are coddled these days, from little league up. that and the way kids just dont go play catch 2-3 times a day everyday these days.

How dare a non-BCS school be good at anything.
How dare a non-football school have a nicer stadium for the past 20 years than OSU.
How dare WSU have a donor with more money than T. Boone Pickens.
How dare WSU go to the Sweet 16 more recently than OSU.
How dare WSU win a baseball national championship more recently than OSU.

What are we thinking? How dare we compete with them and beat them.

                    • It's amazing to me how some fans of BCS schools just spew the 'entitlement' rant and give mid-major schools no credit. I mean, OSU has like 40 NCAA Championships when you include wrestling, golf and baseball, not to mention very, very rich alumni giving them millions upon millions of dollars toward their athletic department.

Believe it not OSU fans, you can't have it all. In a couple of years, they will have one of the nicest college baseball facilities in the nation, but we'll have a pretty decent one ourself by that time with the upcoming renovations.

Besides, they wouldn't win the CWS this year anyway.
