i'd also like to add that at the beginning of the year i did have high hopes for us but we just havent developed and gotten any better as the year has progressed. a few bad innings in some key games have killed us along with our overall inconsistancy. i'm as frustrated as the next fan but i guess i've come to realize that the team isn't a CWS contender... too bad we lost in the super last year... i thought we had to tools to make a decent run in omaha

Re: WSU
Originally posted by 91 mascotOr maybe Gene and staff have taken this program as far as they can. I love everything they have done for the school and all - but most of the kids playing for us were like 6 years old that last time we were a threat to win the college world series. Some say that this Gene story has changed this team - but I think the program has gotten by on reputation for quite a few years - maybe it is time for some new blood that can take this team to the next level. WSU will never play in the Big 12 and we should be able to walk through the valley year in and year out - not wondering if we have to sweep a mediocre middle of the pack Valley team so that we can be a number 1 seed in our own tournament.
Just my 2 cents worth!

Last night was pathetic. It was the first baseball game that I can ever remember leaving early. It reminded me of the WSU/SIU basketball game that was played at the Kansas Coliseum, which is the only basketball game that I have ever left early.
This team is just not very good. Like it has been said many times, we benefitted from a very weak non-conference schedule early on to build our wins. We are lucky that the MVC is down this year or we would be on the outside looking in at a regional bid. Maybe there is a run of good baseball left in this team, but from what we've seen over the past month I seriously doubt it.
The thing that has me worried is that we have had literally no young players step up this season to show that they will be able to lead this team next year. We will lose the weekend starting pitching and we will probably lose four or five position players (Webber, Dirks, Gillaspie, Workman & maybe Coleman). We already have trouble hitting the ball and without those five in the lineup and all the pitching that we are losing it's pretty scary to think about next year. The 40-win streak appears that it will end next season unless some miracle happens.

Hope? What's that? ;-)
I hope to see some good baseball between May 21, 2008 and May 24, 2008. I hope to see WSU win the last game on May 24. At this point, anything else is gravy. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Just a thought... maybe Gene should take the team to a bordello… it’s sure to clear their minds and get the cobb webbs (cobwebs... for Watcher) out of their systems. They'd be primed for a post season run.

From the Eagle:
WSU was shut out three times last season, including a 1-0 loss to Cal-Irvine in the super regional. The 2003 team was shut out four times in the regular season.... The 12-run margin was WSU's largest shutout defeat since a 16-0 loss in seven innings to Creighton in 2003THERE ARE FLOCKS OF BIRDS AND MANY A CAT ------ BUT ONLY ONE WUSHOCK!

I can't find the record for number of times we have been shutout.
Record for number of times we shutout opponents in a season is 17.
It's nice to have the 'team-can-do-no-wrong' fans, but there's a point to where some of these fans lose touch with reality.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.
