That is nuts to say with certainty it has no impact.

I would guess most posting on this board played baseball at some point or have kids that play softball or baseball.

We know that baseball involves the mind more than any other physical sport.

Not being in Wichita I have a question. Is the story all over the place, do they talk about it all the time on Sports Radio, is it all over the TV, are these kids just bombarded with the story? I am really interested to know how much they have to deal with it, that we know about, I am sure they are asked about it from family/friends etc.., but what about the media?

i haven't heard that much about it personally, haven't seen anything about it in the news. i don't think it's covered that much. Personally, I don't think the stalking charge has much, nor should it have much to do with how poorly this team is playing. This team is just way overrated, in fact they just plain suck right now, that's all there is to it.

I miss playing and alot is for that reason, I could take 2-3 hours and not have to think about what was going on in "real life".
Baseball and Golf are a lot alike... while a player might be able to forget the 'real world' during a 9 inning game or a 5 hour round of golf, most can't completely block out the distractions. I hate to make excuses, but off the field problems have a major impact on both amateur and professional athletes in the majority of sports.

Maybe I am just naive in that I didn't think the story was that big a deal as of yet, that so far it didn't really have a whole lot of legs and that is why I feel if wouldn't be a big distraction. I could see family health issues, a divorce something along those lines more than allegations against your coach that seems to not be a major story at the moment.

I think they were 4-3 the week before the story broke too (3-3 vs D-1) from the shutout @ NU to the OSU game.

They were only 2 games better than that in the 14 games prior to the story breaking. I just think they have not been playing good baseball for over a month, once the streak ended they just haven't been real consistent, I don't know what it is, but they just are struggling or maybe like KC said we put to much stock in the long winning streak and we all bought in that they were better than they really are, again I hate to play the optomist but I think they can still make a little noise in the post season, but then again I wouldn't be surprised if they were 2 and a barbaque, just never know in this game or with this team. Very disappointing to say the least tonight, see you all Thursday.

Perhaps Gene should have stayed in Norman???

Oh Lord, I can't believe I'm ready for basketball in May

                        WSU

Or maybe Gene and staff have taken this program as far as they can. I love everything they have done for the school and all - but most of the kids playing for us were like 6 years old that last time we were a threat to win the college world series. Some say that this Gene story has changed this team - but I think the program has gotten by on reputation for quite a few years - maybe it is time for some new blood that can take this team to the next level. WSU will never play in the Big 12 and we should be able to walk through the valley year in and year out - not wondering if we have to sweep a mediocre middle of the pack Valley team so that we can be a number 1 seed in our own tournament.

                        Just my 2 cents worth!
Don't let the fear of striking out - keep you from playing the game!

I was at the game and it was pathetic. Worst week of 'mid-week' games that I can remember in some time. Loses to UCA, ASU and ORU... all at home. ouch!

                              The team is not good.

To say we suck may be an understatement.

There isn't many more words to substitute for 'pathetic' anymore.

a team with our record doesn't "suck" but maybe many of us were blind to the real talent on this year's squad. 38 wins is not a bad year but the team is not getting better as the year goes on, they are actually seeming to stay the same and other teams are making adjustments or just gettin worse. the squad has some really talented players, but not at every aspect of the game. hints the recent struggles. our weaknesses are finally catching up to us. weaknesses being relief pitching, power hitting, consistant hitting, quality at-bats, fielding, a few of our veteran players not rising to the occasion, and young players not filling the void of last year's departures. a team shouldnt win 40 games with as many holes in our team that we have... yes, we have high expectations at wsu but sometimes we just need to realize we dont have the tools to make a legit run at the CWS. with all this being said i hope we can win the valley & tourny then make a competitive showing in our regional. i haven't lost all hope but i just really dont think we have a great team this year
