Last year Wichita State, Arkansas and Missouri all hosted.
In 2006, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas hosted. (Arkansas hosted as a 2)
That's a tough call since Arkansas is in the SEC. To me a Regional at Arkansas would be characterized as a SOUTH regional because of geography and conference affiliation.

One question I would ask is do you consider yourself part of the South or Mid-West? By most definitions, Arkansas is considered part of the south.,

I think the NCAA considers us Midwest. I know this because, before the switch to the 64 team bracket in 1999, we were sent to the "Midwest Regional" the vast majority of the time. Many times it was hosted by Wichita State, but sometimes in Stillwater or Tulsa.

We also rarely host "Southern" teams. The only one is Clemson in 1999. Last year we hosted Oklahoma State, Creighton and Albany. The year before it was Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and Princeton. In 2004 it was Wichita State, Missouri and LeMoyne.
I was just wondering how you thought of your self - southerner or mid-westerner?

Well I was born and raised in Texas so I consider myself a Southerner. 8)

As for Arkansas I would just say it's a mix. We're not Midwestern like Kansas or Southern like Mississippi.

When I was in Arkansas about a year ago - I personally found it very polite and southern. But I can see it either way.

I think it's "down home folk". I have my share of ancestry coming through there and I used to regularly, now irregularly backpack the Ozark Highland Trail. Mt. Magazine is BEAUTIFUL in the fall. God is truly present in the small wonders :good:

This is one of my favorite all time topics.

Sometimes Kansas is lumped in with the midwest like Michigan and Ohio.

Does Kansas have more in common with Oklahoma and Texas or Michigan and Ohio?

I don't think of Texas as southern b/c it is so close to Kansas, but I realize most do.

I have friends that live on the East coast that lump Kansas in with "those big, square states out West."

I think the Great Plains fits us better than most other descriptions.

I read an interesting book from Bill Bryson a few years ago; he is one of those travel writers. He said that somewhere b/t Great Bend and Dodge City, the midwest ends and the West begins. Ballcaps turn to cowboy hats and the friendly midwest turns a bit more reserved and cautious.

I thought it was an interesting comment. I think that line, though, might start just west of Topeka. Have lunch in Eskridge or Council Grove sometime and tell me if you are in the West or somewhere like Iowa or Wisconsin.
