10-4 good captain. Its hard not to defend myself with the shots fever takes over and over but I will oblige and let it die. Fever can take his shots and I'll let them go. I tried to keep it classy and respectful when I chimed in about hays and kcs bet and I would just like to note (in my own defense) that at no time did I bring or invite Fever or our "squabble" into this thread.

I'm trying to not say anything childish and keep things objective in regards to my posts... I dont know what else I can do besides just not post at all. I know the self titled "realist" dont like my defense of the team or gene and I'm taking plenty of heat for that from several posters besides fever but damn i don't know what the hell Ive done besides been a good supporter of the guys and gene to get everyone else all pissed. I dunno why fanmas or you need to chime in on it at this point as I've kept it under control since posting that I would. Seems like if anything it just puts me in a situation to comment or defend myself to you guys and that keeps the whole thing around longer. Perhaps Royal would like to ask me to take my optimism and support for the program off the board till the season is over. Royal... perhaps you would care to chime in on this?

Just when things start simmering down, you have holes like this that come out firing things up, getting their two cents in.

This is directed to everyone (myself included), but more toward a few than the rest.

Say what you have to say (minus the insults) and back away. Usually, it's pretty easy to tell when your point has been understood and an impasse has been reached. At that point, agree to disagree and drop it. Making a post to point out that you aren't taking the bait can also be interpreted as baiting. So be careful and resist the temptation to reply with :whistle: (you know what I mean).

When these petty arguments get going, particularly when they span multiple topics, it becomes difficult to determine "who started it". The solution from a moderation perspective is either deleting posts and locking down topics early (low-to-zero tolerance), or letting it get to a point where posting priviledges will be suspended to bring order back. Either way, someone will be unhappy with the results.

It's better to just stay above the fray. It takes two to make and escalate an argument. And when those not involved start telling you to drop it, instead of getting defensive, take the hint and stand down. Consider it more like an intervention by friends than an attack by an enemy.

It's getting to the point that we (SN staff) may have to be more sensitive when it looks like someone is baiting. So consider this a shot across the bow.
