  • My first post and my first 2 cents

Just my 2 cents... I dont post on here very often, but here goes.... I for one am glad that this team will not be hosting a regional. Not because I don't think they can get the job done but because from the games I have been able to make, there are some very dedicated fans and loyal fans, and then there are some very ignorant, moronic fans who should not be allowed within 200 feet of that beautiful stadium. Everyone seems to think they know all the answers. Well I got news for ya, you don't know squat about it that's why Gene and his staff are down on the field and those 30 or so guys are in uniform. I WISH I lived close enough to come to more games and you can bet I dont leave in the 7th when the shockers are down by 2 or up by 3... go to the game to watch the game.

And a message to the entire shockernet site... What a bunch of whiners. I look through the basketball forum and I see countless "when is baseball season, baseball season can't get here soon enough, etc etc" Now when the baseball team hits a skid... " when's basketball season?" Get over yourself "FANS" enjoy the chance you have to watch these young men while you can. I am too old myself to get caught up in any of the fighting back and forth. My one question is to people like KCshox and fanamas.... Why do you bother posting if you hate these teams so much? Does it make you feel good and proud to pile on? Coward like.

Finally my predictions for the rest of the year, and no I will not make bets, I will just stand by the guys and continue to support them. The guys are going to WIN the Valley, WIN the tournament in convinving fashion, and they are going to head somewhere for a regional as a 2 seed. In that regional, they are going to play the game with guts and pride and will come out victorious. I will make a super regional prediction when and if the time comes but for now I say all that are for the shockers, band together and continue to do what REAL shocker fans do best! :goshocks:

An interesting post and one that is difficult with which to disagree. You wrote "What a bunch of whiners." I think it is passion and love for Shocker sports (and WSU in general, I hope) which comes out as disappointment when the team loses. ShockerNet exists, to some extent, to let Shocker fans vent. I see baseball games as occasions which allow fans to get rid of life's odrinary frustrations by yelling at the ump when he makes a bad call. I see ShockerNet as a forum for information, praise and, at times, for venting. Take everything on SN with a HUGE grain of salt. BTW: I hate "ignorant, moronic fans" and I have found most WSU baseball season-ticket holders (like me :D ) to be knowledgable and fair.
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

You misspelled "do not" and "convincing".

I too am kinda glad they have pissed away a chance to host a Regional and pissed away their 77% probability of winning a Regional.

It saved me at least $100. Another great benefit is that I will be able to get ahead of schedule on finishing a basement bedroom. Afterall, time is the one thing you can't get back once you've wasted it.

What is the baseball office address? I'd like to send them a thank you card.

However, I do feel bad for some of my friends and neighbors who really got excited by last year's post-season fun. While they have been to a game or two this season, they were ready, willing and able to buy all-session tickets to a Regional and potential Super Regional.

Aside from losing the financial impact of a Regional we also failed to lock in a whole new group of fans by building on the momentum from last year.

Oh well, that's baseball. Who needs more fans and more money?

Well welcome to sports message boards. You may see Shocker fans as whiners but they are absolutely no different than any other set of fans posting on message boards…So what’s your point?

I am sorry for my lack of typing skills SB... You'll have to excuse a 66 year old man for not paying better attention, but for the time being, take your editing skills, or your masters degree in english and blow off.

Also, maybe shocker fans are not whiners, but what's the fun in being a fan if all you do is pile on?

Good luck with your basement, I'll be traveling to SUPPORT the team in the regional. I suppose you were one of the people laying the team to rest after the opening game loss to New Orleans in regionals last year as well.

For many years, I've sat next to ISASO at regionals (home and away) as well as our Sweet 16 run in D.C. In the 1992 regional, ISASO sat next to me for 8 1/2 hours in the rain to see the Shox beat the Pukes. He and I have slept outside Rosenblatt Stadium for the chance to get tickets and watch the Shox at the CWS.

His support is unquestionable. He has an impeccable road record, so trust me, let him finish his basement. :D

Maybe if you wouldn't come off as so condescending, then maybe you wouldn't be called out for your grammar errors.

You live in Missouri so I don't think you get the gist of what's going on with this team as we (who actually attend games) do.

how can anyone who is a true shocker fan say they are happy that the shox are not going to host a regional....year after year the shox have lost on the road in the championship game, then last year in front of the home town crowd the shox came through the losers bracket to win their first regional since 1996....i for one would be more than overcome with happiness if the shox hosted, and regardless i would never wish anything but the best and i know you all are the same, so heres hoping the shox get their sh#@ together and get up in time for the postseason wherever it may be!

Myself and the family travelled to support the team at the Regional in Arkansas in '04 and the OU Regional in '06. Remember how fun those were?

My support was pretty good around 1987 and then got locked in during the consistent runs to the CWS. It was easy to get hooked given this progression:

                    1988 CWS
                    1989 National Championship
                    1990 Regional Host
                    1991 Regional Host, CWS
                    1992 Regional Host, CWS
                    1993 CWS
                    1996 Regional Host, CWS

I can't predict what would have happened with regards to my fandom if WSU would've tanked in 1988 like it appears they are doing in 2008. I guess I can't blame the potential fans from last season if they forget about the team now that there seems to be no ability to capitalize on last season.
But, we have enough fans. Right?
We don't really need to host a Regional. Right?
Who cares about the revenue from ticket sales, merchandising and local publicity?
We can be satisfied with going on the road and giving someone else the 77% probablity of winning.
We'll be satisfied with taking the 15% probability.

That's baseball. We shouldn't try to control our destiny.

Personally, I'm of the Gin Blossoms philosophy.

Also, how does one "blow off"?

Not a very good way to introduce yourself to a bunch of die hard Shocker fans.

When the Shox play poorly they're going to get criticized and probably deserve much of it. I like to look on the bright side and do many times, but if you always live that way you're denying what's actually going on. Some do tend to be a lot more negative about thigs than others but that's not unexpected. Some people are naturally that way. Most on this fine site have proved their loyalty and passion to WSU over and over again and that's why we read/post on SN. Even KC falls into that description :D

Thanks Sub for the pulling on my heart strings. I do think I have changed the mind of several used to be, non-believers on SN that I am a WSU graduate and true WSU fan. And again for those who still doubt me, I am not a KU fan.

I am the Yin to SN's Yang. I am the Devil's Advocate, I am the dark side of the force and SN's public enemy number 1. But you guys love me for that. Yes it's true, I do not adopt the majority's 'pollyanna' view on Shocker sports and will make known my criticisms.

With that said, this place practically melted down when I was banned for 2 weeks back in early January. What would you do without me? ;-)

I wonder how hard it is going to be to get tickets in Lincoln? I was in Lincoln last weekend. The Huskers played I believe Louisiana-Lafayette and the place was packed. Seems like a good baseball atmosphere if you can stomach all the red.
