The guy doesn't make it to 7 CWS by playing Newmans and the like. He's made it to 4 CWS championship games and won the big one. You don't do that by playing lower tier teams. His teams have demonstrated they can play with the big boyz.

We are one of the big boyz - in baseball at least! Strange crap happens in baseball. 1 chance in a thousand that Williams doesn't catch that ball. It just happened at a really crucial time. Bad karma or whatever.

I agree, Gene is the man! However, the difference between a championship team and a good team is that champions make plays that KWJ could not.

I know what i'm talking about, I'm telling you, when WSU first started out and Gene took over the program, most of their games were against in-state competition. I know this because several people have told me this. Yes, the schedule is much tougher now and the likes of Newman and Friends are usually left for makeup games, and yes, it does take some good coaching to win as many games as he has. That's not the issue, the issue is that Gene is not the same coach that he was 12 years ago, the last time the Shox made it to the World Series. He's coaching abilities have decreased in a major way. I'm not saying it's time for him to retire, but something definitely needs to change.

Does everybody realize that last year we hosted a Super Regional? That is like making it to the Sweet 16 in basketball! Would anyone have even thought about calling for MT's job the year after the Sweet 16 if he had gone 24-8? MT went something like 9-21 and people we sad to see him go. We are 33-11 and ranked in the top 10 in the country (probably not for long but right now).

The only way it would be possible is if the off season stuff has that much of an impact. Again, a TRO is a CIVIL issue not CRIMINAL. Breaking the TRO is where the criminal part comes in.

You were the one who brought up the moronic point. So blame that one on yourself.

As far as 'change' goes, what does that even mean and what does your 'vast baseball knowledge' suggest?

              Facts:

Gene, Brent & Crew built this beloved program from the ground up literally with nothing but their barehands.

Genes' (note the possesive) teams were regular attendees in Omaha throught the 80's to mid-90's (when I was a student)

Genes' teams continue to be tourney participants and are positioned to continue the trend this season.

Gene is a public figure and does not have an average citizen's the margin of error regarding things in his public or personal life. He is well aware he is " living in the fishbowl".

Gene's actual margin of error is unknown but the only people who know his "envelope" is the great one, President Beggs, the AD to a lesser extent, and a handful of big money boosters who rightly wield significant influence.

Gene's current situation is personal in nature but is being played out in the public's eye. This is no surprise to Gene.

Gene's current situation is currently a civil matter being handled in accordance with established legal processes.

The world is shaded in gray.

Final Fact: if Gene gets to Omaha this season, most of us are willing to let all of this "personal stuff" go away.

(Sorry for any errors posting from my crackberry before a meeting) :)

              Go Shocks!!!!

I don't feel it has been the same since 1999. That was the year we should have returned to the CWS and we all know what happened. It's been 11 years now.

Is it Gene or the fact baseball has gotten a bit larger base of good teams? IMO it's a bit of both. Gene IMO doesn't have quite the fire he used to and I think that was part of what made him great. Regardless it's going to be up to Gene on when he retires unless these allegations prove true.

Also, although I believe Gene has slipped some, you are playing with fire if we lose him.

It is May 2nd, the day when some type of disposition should be reached for Gene in this matter.

Why is that? You did hear that the May 1st court hearing was postponed did you not?

This topic pisses me off and is getting old, it happens every year, when they don't go 56-0 in the regular season.

Gene is still the same coach as he ever was. There is one major issue attributed to the "decline" of Shocker baseball. The sport has gained popularity and BCS programs are investing more into their programs. As facilities to these BCS programs get better, recruiting budgets get larger they are signing more players that we used to get. Again, if a high school player is being recruited by Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Wichita State, odds are that student will sign with the BCS program. Higher profile university, higher profile conference, greater chance of media exposure, better college atmosphere, and D1 football.

All you have to do is look around the region to see what BCS programs are doing. K-State remodeled their stadium, KU has made improvements, Nebraska's facility is top notch as well as Arkansas', OK State (with the help of T Boone) is set to construct within the next 2 years a fantastic facility, Oklahoma is discussing the issue. Even Mizzou State plays in a great park. Nationally, East Carolina has built a great stadium, Louisville upgraded, Oregon now wants to get a piece of the action ecetera - ecetera.

20 years ago, WSU was in a league of say 20-25 programs that had great facilities and fan support. The best high school players pretty much wanted to go to these 25 programs so WSU had a greater pool to recruit from. Now that College Baseball has gained popularity and this pool has been diluted as high school players have more options to choose from.

Gene should be given a lot of credit for continuing the success at Wichita State. We do not offer the same ammenities that other BCS programs do and college aged kids are attracted not only to a great baseball program, but I'm fairly certain the college experience, academic and athletic reputation also plays a part in their decision to sign with a school.

WSU is a commuter school that is located smack dab in the middle of the city. WSU does not offer a traditional college experience, does not have football, and no offense, is located in Kansas. The name WSU is also not as well known as our regional BCS counterparts as well.

I praise Gene for all he has done and will do. We have a great facility and will end up getting better. Despite the ever increasing difficulty of recruiting, he continues to bring in players that are good and is able to steal some away from BCS programs.

                          People, get off his back.

So another reason not having football is hurting us. This argument keeps getting stronger and stronger.

After all, if WSU wouldn't have had football, Joe Carter probably would have never played a day of baseball here.

So let me see if I understand correctly.... when nobody else cares about college baseball, Gene is able to recruit better players than the the non-caring and beat them with them and then when the big boys start caring and trying Gene can no-longer compete on that level? Alright I think I've got it now but one last thought, I don't mind staying off his back now as long as I don't have to give respect to what happened before, or I'll do it the other way and give respect to history and ask what the xxxx is up in the last decade.
