  • Should Gene retire at the end of the season?

Unless something really ugly comes out of this stalking allegation, the man has done enough for the community and the university that it should be his choice when he hangs it up. Is it time? Discuss please.
Because Denny Crane says so Dammit!

No, he isn't out there fielding the ball. Lost two games by defensive choke jobs, not his fault.

It's time, as the years go by his record is being tarnished more and more, I truly have to believe that the energy that it took to build the program is no longer there, which is only natural.

Of course not and anyone who says otherwise is a blooming idiot. He shouldn't walk away until his name is firmly atop the list of all time wins.

JMO but leaving Hoch in on an empty tank has something to do with this one also. This is a real hard question to answer.Kemnitz is what is keeping this program afloat in the past 8-10 years.

And on Sunday we were wondering why he pulled Hoch when he had been doing fine.

              I hate fans sometimes.

We have lost some games this year that we are not accustomed to seeing and makes a brotha' mad.

Let's not forget some other memorable choke jobs that have occurred to this program but we continue to be a Top 40 team every year. The '88 AZ State game :( How about the regional game against NC State where we blew a 9-3 lead in the 9th and lost and got eliminated. How about the 11-6 9th inning lead at the Arkansas regional we lost in extra innings on a grand slam. How about last year's Super Regional where Olie Norton made that diving catch to rob us of a victory and the second game bases loaded meltdown.

So many more. The point is, this program will recover in time, once we get our improvements at the stadium and indoor practice facility squared away, we will be among the elite (I hope) and better things to come.

That aside. I'm still pissed off right now and if I could afford to do it, would take my aluminum bat and destroy my car right now. This season will not be magical like last year's but Gene is still the man and dog gone it, he should continue to be the man until he decides it's time to go.

We owe everything to Gene and as far as I'm concerned he is our Joe Paterno he's earned that right.

Gene has obviously lost a step or two as far as his coaching abilities, there's no doubt about that. The question is, how much do these bogus charges against him have anything to do with it? He was already making questionable decisions before this happened, now he seems to be making worse decisions. This is a tough question to answer, he has done a lot for the program, but as me and other people have talked about, his winning record isn't as good as it seems because most of those wins came against the Valley, and teams like Friends, Newman, Emporia St.

I think the main thing is what comes out of these charges. If it comes true that he is in fact guilty, then he needs to go. If not, I say we leave it up to him, however with a new AD, anything is possible.

That is the most absurd comment I have ever read. First of all, Gene can't control what conference WSU is affiliated with. MVC games count as D1 wins just as much as the SEC, Big 12 or any other BCS conference. Also, the majority of wins have come against Newman, Emporia State, etc., if you were in front of me, I'd slap you into next Tuesday.

The guy doesn't make it to 7 CWS by playing Newmans and the like. He's made it to 4 CWS championship games and won the big one. You don't do that by playing lower tier teams. His teams have demonstrated they can play with the big boyz.

He's younger than ol Soggy Gurrido, and he's got plenty of game left in him. Get off his back. We wouldn't be discussing this had we won the ISU and tonight's game. Gimme a break.

KC Shox, go back many years ago and look at the kind of teams Gene played. I guarantee most of those were the likes of Friends and Newman. I know because I know people that talked to him back then, so don't bring you crap to me. The point is the man is starting to slip in his coaching abilities, he has for several years now. And that 1989 team that won the CWS, I could have coached that team to a title. He had so much talent he didn't need to coach. Again, I can find many, many people that agree with me on the statement.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what Gene has done for WSU, but the fact is he's not making the best decisions now, and it's hurting the team. That being said, it wont' surprise me if there are some changes made to the coaching staff after the season.
