  • Dirks MVP

Andy is currently leading the team in several offensive categories.....Runs, HR's, slugging pct., on-base pct., walks, & stolen bases.

He also has some kind of ridiculous streak of consecutive games reaching base safely (40-something?).

So, in spite of all of the 'hype' surrounding certain 'other' players, I think this is the guy who consistently gets it done, (regardless of the level of competition).

I just think he often gets overlooked for the great job he's doing.

I don't think there's a Shocker baseball fan out there that overlooks what Dirks brings to the table.

      Huh?

Listen to the ovation Dirks gets as he walks to the plate. The fans "get it". Watch how much fun he's having playing the game and the respect he gets from the players. His teammates "get it". The only guy on the squad who has batted in the same spot in the order every game. The coaches "get it".

50 game on-base streak - I think everyone "gets" that.

This is a no brainer. He's the only guy that is showing up to play lately and pulling his weight.

Dusty has hit .428 or something in the last 10 games. Id say its safe to say he is learning to hit the breaking and curve balls. maybe we should move him back to the 4 hole and get the lineup back to the way it was when it was at its best before we screwed it all up.

I would be surprised if he isn't hitting clean up this weekend.

I think I heard Kennedy say that this summer Andy did not reach base safely in his first game then reached safely in 52 consecutive games.

Combined that with his Shocker only numbers and he has reached safely in 91 consecutive games and 102 out of his last 103 competitive games.

That is pretty hard to ignore even if you wanted to.

Andy certainly deserves consideration as this year's MVP, however, we still have a lot of season and hopefully a lot of post-season to play yet, so still ample opportunities for players to standout. Andy's consistency though is going to be hard to ignore.

I think Andy has pretty much answered the MVP question at this point.

At least he get's my vote.

If you point is Dirks is having a great season - yes. If your point is Conor Gillaspie gets too much "hype" - you are off base. Both great players.

First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

I think this discussion is pretty much over.

This guy can hit AND consistently field his position, which is a rare combination on this team.

Andy is the ONLY one outside of Conner that has a clue about hitting.
