Personally I did not think the article was a hatchet job on Gene nor particularly slanted. Pretty much reported the situation as it now exists.

I see no reason to shoot the messengers on this one.
I suppose your right, I'm just still pissy about the debacle in Stillwater.

If the allegations prove false, then Sully is finished with WSU baseball and I will be finished reading his stuff.
Can't blame Sully for this one....it's his job.....WSU is his assignment...good news or bad, it's his job at the Eagle.... If he would have refused to write about it, it might have meant his job.....

I dont blame him for writing about it but I blame him for smearing genes name in the mud and keeping her name out of it all together. At this point its a he said she said and if your gonna throw his name and rep under the bus you better throw hers as well as it is public record and there is not a single reason why her name shouldnt be tied to this debacle and her rep on the line in public as well. She is also tied to a university and its should not be a one way street.

As was pointed out earlier, Paul was a co-author.

These articles also get passed over an editor's desk, I assume.

The point is, we have no idea whether Paul had anything to do with the accuser's name being omitted. Yet some have already found him guilty of "smearing Gene".

t...I agree. And her name is out there. Royal is just keeping it off the board to ensure that we have a place to talk about it, and that he doesn't become legally liable for anything the board members might say.

                Thanks, Downtown.

To clarify, I'm really not concerned about ShockerNet's legal liability, as I believe there is already enough legal precedent that SN is protected.

Myself and the staff members who have weighed in feel that this is a topic that will only get ugly and detract.

Maybe that will change if some facts ever emerge from this.

I don't have a problem with her name being kept off this forum at all. I understand. I just have a beef with the shady journalism and the eagles approach to this article. I don't have a beef with anything in regards to this topic on shockernet or how the mods have and are handling it. Just for the record I'm not calling anyone out on here so much as communicating my displeasure with the eagle and how they have gone about handling it.

I don't disagree with you about the Eagle as an entity in this. I think they had a responsibility to name both the accused and the accuser. However, I do disagree with calling out Paul S. when there are at least two other potentially responsible parties.

I find it interesting that the petition was filed and the TRO issued on March 27th and it was not made public for almost a month.

I assume the Eagle has some staff reporters (such as Deb Gruver) checking the legal notices and dockets on a daily basis.

Someone suggested earlier that Jim Schaus may have requested some restraint in making this information public until the transition in the AD position was complete. Note the article was published the day after Eric Sexton officially became the AD or maybe they justed wanted less time between publication and the court hearing on the matter.

I have no way of knowing if this was in fact the case. Actually, if it was, it would be quite unusual for a newspaper to show such restraint in this day and age. The timing of the publication just seems more than coincidental.

There is no doubt Gene has been tarnished by this matter. If the allegations are not proven in the court hearing then he deserves that to be properly publicized as well.

If the allegations are established to be credible, then Gene and WSU have a real public relations challenge to deal with, although one I believe they will adequately manage, if necessary.

Perhaps someone from this board with some clout should contact Paul S and ask him why the Eagle does not name her?

does anyone know the true story behind Gene's ski trip a couple of yrs ago? The reports said he was skiing in Colorado alone when he injured himself but it has long been rumored he was out their with a woman other than his wife.

Don't know anything about that, but I heard Sonny Bono was his instructor.
