I could be wrong, but I believe that has been the knock on Matt - that his fastball runs straight and true.

I'm going to stand firm in my belief that Matt Smith will be a hell of a pitcher...some day. I've just given up on predicting when that will be. He proved at the OU regional as a freshman that the ability is there. Unfortunately that remains the high point of his career.

What was up with those fugly hats that KU wore last night, those were a joke.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Nice hill scene last night. Should be equally good the rest of the year out there, now that it is above 42 degrees.

Agreed, I noticed starting last weekend a lot more people were showing up to the lot early for some tailgating.

                Are KU hats ever non-fugly?

                    Serious discussion......

Watching the game last night I noticed (not for the first time mind you) the physical size difference between many of the KU players and most of ours.

Why? I have many ideas, some with merit and others way out there. It's not just KU....most "bigger" schools are like this. Don't try to sell me on "they are recruiting bcs athletes" either...that may fly in basketball but NOT baseball.....not against us.

                    Any thoughts?

                      Hawks

No one has mentioned it, but it seemed like there were at least 2 or 3 occasions on balls that WSU hit to the right side of the KU infield where they had trouble figuring out who should cover 1st base. The last time it happened, the pitcher got their late juggled the ball thereby allowing Ryan Jones to make it there safely. KU didn't get any errors for their play on this one or the ones earlier, but it looked like they were making mental mistakes.

Gene's philosophy of baseball is that defense and pitching win ballgames and to score runs playing small ball. Therefore, he recruits fast guys that can run down balls in the outfield, get on base and steal bases. Bunt, hit and run etc. These types of guys are not going to be big boys like KU had who are slow but hit HR's.

Except that he sometimes doesn't teach them to bunt very well.

"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:

You are right, that has been a glaring weakness in his offensive strategy.
