  • Rivals.com- Regional Projections

This projection will be updated weekly, so I figured that we could start a thread that we can keep all of the rivals projections in.

Kendall has us hosting as a #2 seed with California the #1 seed, Dallas Baptist as the 3 seed and Notre Dame as the 4 seed. That would be an interesting group for sure.

Oh man id take that in a second. I think we could clean up if that was our draw. I certainly like that better than having OSU, Oral Roberts, Missouri, Nebraska, or any combo of those teams in here.

In case anyone doesn't know, Travis Wycoff is the Associate head coach at Dallas Baptist. They've played a nice OOC schedule (Rice, ORU, Baylor, MoSt, TCU, OU, etc.). It would be fun to have them in here for a regional and they're no gimme.

They have UNI as the automatic from the MVC. They are in first now, but they have played CU, MSU, or us.

          UNI

As if I needed another reason to scoff at mid-April regional projections...

If UNI is still in first place three weekends from now, after playing Creighton and at WSU, plus a series against the same SIU the Shocks are facing this weekend, then maybe I'll start taking them seriously. (And if anyone wants to place a bet on that happening, please feel free to check with me privately.)

But until then, the idea that they're likely to be the MVC automatic is frankly laughable, no matter what the current standings say. True, it would be a way for the Valley to get a second team in the field of 64*, which isn't likely unless the Shocks do stumble in the tournament. (With MSU at 77th right now, no one else in the top 100, and Creighton at 120th the only other team that has a remote chance of even cracking the top 100, there 's only one Valley team that has any chance at all of getting in at large.) But, of course, that's exactly why a projection based on the assumption that they'll be in -- or even that two MVC teams will be in at all -- lacks credibility.

          * Field of 64? How can baseball play a 64-team single-elimination tournament with only 64 teams instead of squeezing in a ridiculous play-in game so they can start with 65? Don't those guys know anything?

Now, I never take Rivals seriously for anything..

Kinda ironic if we would win our regional in this projection, who we would most likely be playing in the Supers..
