Here is the official announcement and review of the 19-players 2018 Shocker baseball recruiting class.

The signing class includes athletes from eight states including Texas (10), Kansas (2), Illinois (2), Nebraska (1), Colorado (1), Virginia (1), Missouri (1) and Arkansas (1). The class features five outfielders, four right-handed pitchers, three infielders, three left-handed pitchers, two two-way players and two catchers.

"We are excited to announce our 2018 recruiting class that includes balance on the mound and the playing field," Butler said. "The class features left and right-handed pitching along with a balanced assortment of hitters from both sides of the plate. This class is as athletic as any of the classes before with a tremendous amount of speed across the field of play."

                  Nick Houzenga‏ @nickhouzenga5 8 hours ago

Honored and blessed to say that I am continuing my academic and baseball career at Wichita St University! #GoShockers #Committed

Houzenga, a RHP, is a Juco transfer from Southwestern Iowa CC. His numbers over his Freshman and into his sophomore years are not very impressive. In 17 Juco appearances covering 49.1 innings he as a ERA of 10.22 and a WHIP of 2.20. He has struck out 51 batters in those 49.1 innings but he has also walked 63.

Sounds like a real project. Perhaps a hard thrower who has absolutely no idea where the ball is going Maybe a walkon. Not sure you would want to use any of your valuable scholarship alotment for a Juco project.

I wish the young man well but it would seem he has a real steep hill to climb.

The article below features two of the three future Shockers (with OF Seth Morrow) on the San Antonio Reagan team playing in the Texas 6A state semifinals Friday.

Adam Stephenson went 1-2 with a sac bunt that led to their 1st run in Southlake Carroll's semifinal win in the 6A state tourney in Texas.

Incoming 6-3 LHP Cal Carver threw a 3 hit, 1 run gem to lead San Antonio Reagan to the other final spot. 2 other Reagan players have signed with WSU. C Josh Killeen was 0-1 with 2 walks.....Apparently Texas baseball has a pinch runner rule much like softball? Outfielder Seth Morrow was 0-3 with an RBI. These are some of the best players on the 19th ranked team in the country. Carver is 13-1 and can really pitch. Great finish to his high school career. He will watch 3 future teammates compete for the state final in just a few minutes.

Kind of cool that Carver might have his own personal catcher for 3 years here. The battle for that position is going to be stout in the fall.

Edit: Southlake Carroll beat Reagan to win the Texas State 6A title.

This was replayed on one of the Fox channels yesterday. Of course Cal didn't play, but everyone else looks the part.

Carson Cox's season ended against Argyle High in the District semifinals. Argyle is 39-0 and ranked as high as #1 in the country. Nice club.

Do you think Argyle High's head coach is interested in a Division I job?

                      ... No really, deuces.

                          Albrecht makes All-State Team

Quinten Albrecht, who enjoyed a standout senior season with the Waterloo High School baseball team this spring, was just named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A All-State Team.

Albrecht, who will play ball at Wichita State University next season, ranked ninth in the St. Louis area with a .505 batting average for the Bulldogs. The left-handed-hitting Albrecht also ranked fifth in the area in slugging percentage (.905) and seventh in both on base percentage (.615) and doubles (15) and second in crushing D1 curveballs. He hit seven home runs with 35 runs and 35 RBIs and was an all-conference selection in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Albrecht collected 100 varsity hits over four seasons at WHS while playing rock solid defense behind the plate.

Quinten Albrecht, who enjoyed a standout senior season with the Waterloo High School baseball team this spring, was just named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A…

Shocks recceive a commitment from Tristan McCraw, a 5-11, 165 RHP, out of TCS Baseball Academny in McKinney, Texas ( a northeast suburb of Dallas). TCS is apparently a baseball prep school. Not sure how many, if any, previous baseball Shockers have gone the prep school route. Tristan was not highly recruited out of Magnolia, Texas (just northwest of Houston). He had initially committed to Cisco Jr. College but apparently decided to go the prep school route.

His fastball is 89-92 and he looks to be a max effort kind of pitcher so I would think releiver. His additional pitches on his recruiting video include a breaking ball, slider, changeup and knuckle ball (which is certianly not something you see very often at this level). I wonder if he might be a late add to fill the hole left by Keylan Killgore signing with the Phillies. Hard to say for sure.

McCraw continues to impress, work and improve his velocity. He has been overlooked in the past but now a real contender as his body matures. He is doing a tremendous job in Houston collegiate wood bat league with leading overall strikeouts and fastball topping at 94 mph now. If all goes well, he will be in Wichita early playing at the NBC World Series.

He will be a great fit in the Wichita bullpen.
