Former South Carolina assistant coach Sammy Esposito has landed on his feet. Esposito accepted an assistant coach position on Wednesday at Wichita State under fifth-year head coach Todd Walter.

It is interesting that South Carolina fired a coach that was 200-106 overall and 81-67 in conference play. Those numbers look pretty good compared to HCTB's record of 106-128 and 42-42.

Spent 5 years at South Carolina as a VOLUNTEER assistant before being promoted to an assistant position in 2012.

Here is the a rticle reporting the departure of the USC head coach which cost Esposito his job. Sounds like missing post-season play in 2 of the last 3 years have having made it the previous 15 straight years did him in.

Actually the hiring of Coach Esposito is a better hire than I thought we may be able to pull off considering the shaky status of HCTB. Maybe HCTB status is not as shaky as most of us believe. Then again you have guy who worked as a volunteer assistant for 5 years so HCTB status may not have been that big a deal for him and at this point the WSU job could very well have been the best thing available to him.

In any case, I wish Coach Esposito well.

But, is he at least 6' tall?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Different level of expectation in the S. Carolina program than WSU based on S. Carolina recent success. They draw 6500-7500 fans a game. They actually remember success in their program. Just compare since WSU last super regional in 2008.

              WSU (from 2008) - NCAA Appearances 3, CWS 0
              S. Carolina (from 2008) - NCAA Appearances 8, CWS 3, National Champions 2, 1 National runner-up

Management of a baseball program for an athletic department in the SEC is as a big of deal as management of a football or basketball program in another major conference. Just look at LSU - Skip Bertman became AD after turning over the reigns to Paul Manieri. Same goes for South Carolina w/ Ray Tanner as the AD. I'd venture to say that baseball is more important to the SEC than basketball.

I'm wondering how many AAC schools he saw while at South Carolina. Could possibly have insight regarding our new conference ala Donnie Jones.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

South Carolina defeated UCONN in the 2011 Columbia Super Regional. Gamecocks then went on to win the CWS that year.

I believe ECU has played them quite a few times in both the regular season and Regional play.

I just want to know if Sammy is related to Phil and Tony?
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Nope. He is the son of pro player (White Sox) and college baseball coach (NC St making CWS) and assistant basketball coach (NC St under Norm Sloan) Sammy Esposito, Sr.

I bet he can routinely snap a wrist shot past the goalies glove that buries itself into the net, just under the top left corner.

Unless his uncle Tony is tending goal.
