So will an above .500 record save Todd's job for another year?

Very difficult to say. Mostly depends on how much of an appetite WSU has to shell out a $1 million buyout only 4 years after having to buy Gene's final year out and in a year where they came to some kind of settlement with Jody Adams and at a time they are undertaking an expensive transition to the AAC.

He will be back, book it. Considering all the $ we are having to shell out in the next 24 months, barring a complete meltdown next year (not real sure what that would look like, we have already melted down) I would bet that he will be back the next two years.

Had fun at the game--loved the walk off homer. Always great to see these games....hated, however, that there were nearly as many K-State fans there as Shocker fans. Something has to be done, like winning, in order to get the fans back!

That $1 million is already spent whether you send him packing or keep him. Whatever they pay the new coach will be the additional cost. Wonder if they can attract a quality coach with a backloaded contract.

It shouldn't. Last time we fired a coach after a 38-28 season with an RPI 40 positions better than this year's team and an NPI 100 points better with a 125 SoS, finishing 2nd (1 game out of 1st) in the 15th ranked conference. We were 5-20 vs the top 100, 22-7 vs 101-200, and 11-1 vs RPI 201+ and we were .500 on the road.

This year we have a 118 SoS, are 5-18 against the top 100, 10-6 vs 101-200, and 11-2 vs RPI 201+. We are 4-19 on the road.

Disclaimer: This is not meant to rehash anything from the past. The only purpose is to make a point that merely finishing at .500 should not help make this decision (well in all honesty it should cement the decision). As we are all painfully aware, I think this is going to come down to money. I don't see how anyone could look at the results on the field and think we are better off today than 4 years ago. I also don't see much reason for optimism. This was a year we should have been competing for an MVC title. To finish 10 games out of first in the 16th - 19th ranked conference is a far cry from where we should be.
