WSU up 9-5 in the top of the 9th, 1 out. Womack has walked two in a row after retiring the first batter with Nanney working in the bullpen.

Ground ball out, only able to get one on the play. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2 out, still WSU 9-5.

Womack strikes out the next batter on three pitches!

            WSU wins 9-5.

Good job by Andy to come back to get outs 2 and 3 and end the game.

Andy obviously had pretty good stuff as he was getting MSU out consistently when he wasn't walking them.

All-in-all though should be confidence builder for Andy that his stuff is plenty good. Hopefully, he will round into the form he showed late last season.

Good series win for Shocks, especially after maybe giving Game 1 away.

              Another big week coming up.

              :goshocks:

CG made a great defensive play keeping the ball in the infield with the bases full o' Bears in the late innings to save a double. The stats on the Bears production in the late innings against all teams ( not just us) are very impressive.

Nice series win to cap a 4-1 week.

                    It is a nasty sight.

Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Just curious KC... why do you have such a hard-on for K-State baseball? :P

With one out in the 7th and a 9 to 5 score and what maybe considered a man on first Womack pitches 2 an 2/3 scoreless. Why doesn't he get a save the box score doesn'tlist him with a save?

To get a save the men on base + man at bat + man on deck + score have to be equal to or more than your current score.

I thought womack had a man on first, third, man at bat + on deck which would mean if they ALL scored, 9 runs for the tie aka a save situation but I may be wrong there.

He did not satisfy the offical baseball rules for being credited with a save. The rules are:

                              Save
SECTION 26. If a relief pitcher meets ALL of the following conditions, the
official scorer should credit that pitcher with a save:
                              a. He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team;
                              b. He is not credited with the win, and
                              c. He meets one of the following conditions:
                              (1) He enters the game with a lead of not more than three runs and
                              pitches at least one inning;
                              (2) He enters the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on
                              deck, or
                              (3) He pitches effectively for at least three innings

                                (2) He enters the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on
                                deck, or
                                (3) He pitches for at least three innings
I'll highlight the areas Womack didn't achieve so nobody else will get confused:

                                (2) He enters the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on
                                deck

He did not enter the game with the tying run on deck because there was nobody on base when he entered. The HR cleared the bases, Muncrief got to a 3/1 count then was taken out. Womack then proceeded to walk Muncriefs man, strikeout a batter, then walk a man of his own.

                                (3) He pitches for at least three innings

                                Womack pitched 2 2/3.

Side note: Saves are an odd stat and in no way shows a pitchers effectiveness. If a pitcher pitches the final 3 innings of a game, even if his team is up 100-0, he will still get a save.

'3 innings pitched' save scenario: Wes Littleton in the Texas Rangers' 30-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on August 22, 2007. In pitching the last three innings of the Rangers’ 30-3 rout in the first game of a doubleheader against Baltimore, he earned the distinction for recording a save with the largest winning margin.
