  • Wichita State vs Texas Tech (Game 2)

Zach Lewis gets the start for the Shocks and Steven Gingery for Texas Tech.

Texas Tech scored first with a lead off home run to CF in the 3rd inning. With 2 outs a walk and a triple increased the Tech lead to 2-0.

A double and two wild pitches produced another run for Texas Tech in the 5th for a 3-0 lead.

A Trey Vickers single, Jacob Katsfey walk and a passed ball put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the Shocker 5th. Bryan Klusener chopped a ball to the left side of the pitchers mound that Gingery fielded and threw home to get Vickers on a bang, bang play. With Jordan Boyer at bat the Shocks attempted a squeeze play (safety squeeze I think) but Gingery fielded Boyer's bunt and Katsfey was caught in run down between 3rd and home. Alex Jackson struck out to end the Shocker threat.

At the end of 6 innings Texas Tech leads 3-0.

Zach Lewis has had a solid outing for the Shocks today. The Shocks have managed only 3 hits in 6 innings so far.

Lewis with 10 K's. strong outing. It would be nice if the hitters could help him out now.

Texas Tech replaces their starter in the 7th and Trey Vickers led of the Shocker with a solid single to center followed by an opposite filed double by Jacob Katsfey to give the Shocks 2nd and 3rd with no one out again. This time Bryant Kiusener was able to drive in Vickers with a Sac Fly to right. Another fly to shallow RF by Jordan Boyer failed to deliver Katsfey from 3rd. Alex Jackson grounded sharply down the RF line but the Tech 1B made a nice defensive play to end the inning.

Back-to-back doubles (one to the wall in RC and one to the wall in LC) off Landon Holifield with 1 out in the 8th put Texas Tech back up by 3 runs at 4-1.

Shocks get runners on first and second with one out in the 8th, but get nothing. 1-4 going to the 9th.

Young pinch hits for Katzfey who is hitting .348, and strikes out looking.

Katzfey 1-2 with a double and a walk, now hitting .350. Better pinch hit for him!!

                Strikeout looking.

                It's baffling. I'm baffled.

At some point this moves from being bad at your job to stealing.

Shocks lose again, 1-4. Great pitching by Lewis, but we struck out 11 more times today and once again could not get a timely hit.

I never imagined our hitting could be this bad. It's incredible.

                          Final: Texas Tech 4 - Shockers 1

Thought the Shocks were generally more competitive today. Multiple opportunities to do some damage but could not come through with any big hits in those key situations.

Shocks pitching was also generally pretty good, but against teams with solid pitching they are probably going to have to be better than pretty good.

There are so many coaching moves that are just plain dumb. Dumb.

Some of the problems are lack of execution. Some are just bad baseball.

How this guy is given this job is twilight zone ****.

Our hitters have struck out 196 times and have only walked 78 this season.
